Newbie

It was a bargain, and can see why you bought it. What sized bird did they have in it.

Stuart Lee is really far away (I've been there too) he's the other side of Yorkshire, furthest away from us in Scotland lol

I know you like the green cheeks, why not give the gumtree owner a wee call, ask questions etc. you never know he maybe reputable and has handled the babies etc.n

There's no harm in asking questions, just don't be pushed into buying the bird if it doesn't sound right, also if it sounds good, then visit, see the breeder handle the birds etc. ask more questions then follow your head and not your heart and don't part with any cash unless you're buying the bird and taking it with you, I only say this because this breeder is not known to me or any of us and I would hate for you to be scammed. He was hand rearing a Owl in the cage .Dont worry its been cleaned with pet friendly disinfectant about 10 times lol .

What kinda of questions should i be asking ?

they are also known as the clown parrot.  I have four but personally I love these birds to have as much time out the cage as possible and prefer them to have a friend or partner.  they can become quite tame but I have never got mine to talk.  a very quick bird and although I can give mine a cuddle and kiss they will not stay on you for long.  they have moments of dashing about but I will recommend getting a nest box so they can rest during day light.  they have a life expectancy of about eight years but it is eight years of a very fast life style.  they love foraging on the ground and finding out the way places to hide.  they can be a little messy with the feed as they will kick it out the bowel on the floor.  not known for biting but if they do they will cling on and hold.  I love them and will always want them as part of my flock.

Maybe not a kakaraki then as i would like a bird to spend quite a bit of time with me either on my shoulder arm leg ,also to be affectionate . so here i am still at a loss as to which type togo for . .

things i am looking for so far are .

1. Affectionate

2.easy tamed

3.larger than a cockatiel but not bigger than african grey

4.no more than £140

I received this email back from another guy who has conures, very short email so once i know what questions to ask i will reply to him .-

they have DNA papers and they have been moderately handled.

Hi from me and mine too, I am owned by a Quaker the beautiful Belleimage.jpg she is nearly two years old now no I m her second and final home, I rehomed her because she was too noisy and her previous owners lived in a flat, I have nine birds and this little gem is the loudest.

If you don't mind a bit of noise occasionally they are fab birds, funny, playful, and very very cheeky, she has just started to talk and it melts my heart when she says kiss mummy in her little robotic voice.

Belle is desperate to be friends with the others, lol, so I can see a friend coming up, I am looking at conures they are cracking little birds with such fun personalities.

I have never found belle to be aggressive to any of my other birds although admittedly she certainly won't be bullied by them,

Stuart

It sounds like they were parent reared and therefore you will need to spend quite a bit of time getting the bird more tame, not impossible but it depends on you and your commitments. Whichever bird you have it will not necessarily settle immediately into its new home and surroundings and come to you, sit with you etc. it will all take time. It has to gain confidence and so on.

I guess you need to ask age,  was it parent reared, (best for the bird but can take longer to become tame) whether fully weaned (which is should be ) and can you visit  which you do need to do and  handle yourself.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Sarah , she is beautifull the exact colour i love ... i would love to find one like her . even tho i would still b happy with another colour as long as which ever type i go for is affectionate and easy tamed

Diana - the green conure is just over 10 weeks old and feeding himself

bless little Belle Sarah I think a conure would be fab!

Stu moderately handled doesn't sound like much and if this is your first bird you really need to get it right, Julie is right though no harm in asking the person from gumtree, make sure if you go there you see the breeder handle the bird so you know

another idea, have you considered offering a home to a bird from one of the more reputable rescues? bird won't be free and you won't be its owner as if anything changes and you can no longer keep bird the rescue take it back- you can't rehome or sell on. advantage of rescue is though that good rescues match birds needs with owners needs - you would be getting an adult and know from the outset what you are taking on personalty wise. babies can be deceptive- most baby birds are cute but some turn into hormonal monsters as mature-taking on an adult the good and bad would mostly be on view straight off

that's a good point Sunny, they do cost but no where near as much as a baby, I have some birds from a charity Stu and although they belong to the charity this just means as Sunny said they go back if you can no longer look after them, while they are with you they are yours, we have Jim who belongs to charity paid a one off donation to the charity and then a bit of money for her and then Chilli who we got cause the charity contacted me but he is mine he didn't go through them as such and we are safe housing an amazon at the moment, if you are interested I can give you information on the charity (its not "A Parrot Charity Site")

Yes please i did try and find local bird rescues but again came up blank so any help would be good .
