Newbie

Hi and welcome from me!

Always good to get advice before making that commitment! We found it hard to find a breeder. Eventually we stumbled upon a grey that had just come up for sale and was actually from Beck's Bird Barn.

If I was buying now, I'd want a bird from Nikki H. She really cares about her birds and like Julie says, the distance is worth it for a good bird.

Good luck in your search, looking forward to hearing all about your birdie journey! :)

Hello and welcome to the forum well I would love to see photos of your budgies but now I would like to talk about quakers.  I do not have Quaker's for the reason is they can become very protective of their space. and although they are lovely birds they have been know to attack birds that wander too close to their own space and even kill them.  If you did not have the budgies then as a lovely bird they become great friends and are very intelligent and Loyal.  I have quite a few birds and absolutely love conures but I would also say that only one of mine was hand reared and I myself find that parent reared just as friendly and loving but they do need a little more time when you first get them and once they get used to your hand and the trust is gained their is no difference.  Every bird has its own character so it would be hard to say how a certain bird will act but the conure will be looking for company from you as they are not birds that like being ignored.  they are very intelligent and can be taught to speak but not as clear as the greys as they normally have a croaky voice.  their are a few species of conure and they are all lovely.  as far as the cage is concerned  you may find the bird out more than in the cage as they just love to be with you.  But it would not keep my maroon belled in it as George is an escape artist.  the pineapples (green Cheek) are a little larger  and  the cage should be fine.  most conures can be a little nippy its not bad but it is the way they play with other conures.  I have had many a nip that has drawn a little blood but have never been bitten by one..........yet.

Im swaying towards the Green cheek conure where do you get yours from ? as that would be handy knowing someone who has purchased from them so i know its safe .

As for Flash (budgie) hes in a seperate room .

Im in Falkirk Diana

Where abouts in Eng;and is Nicky

In the PS mag of last month someone in Stafford has some, is that too far?  I can PM you details if you wish.

We have some lovely breeders on this site but I will say Nikki in my opinion is the best  If I wanted to get a baby grey it would defiantly be one of her babies.  not putting other breeders down but her love for her siblings has really won my heart

have you considered a caique? Lee lives in Yorkshire and his black headed caiques are due soon, they are smashing birds to, Lee is somewhere in Yorkshire if that's not too far?

Stafford is a good 4/5 hr drive from me so would be 10-11 hr rnd trip not including traffic n such .

Yorkshire would be better but would then depend on price of bird as i would need to save some for fuel

well their not hatched yet but are due soon I believe so you have a bit of time, have a read up on them, they are said to be clowns, real fun :)

this was Lee's post this morning

Morning all, the weathers a bit none discript here. Birds all fed and watered now onto horses. Just checked the Blach Headed Caiques and they are still sat on there eggs, something should happen very soon I imagine. Then I go through the stress of finding good homes for them in 3 months or so. Both last years babys are coming back to board this year which I am really looking forward to.

Have a good day.

extremely clever. and I would call a fun bird to have around love to play and find tricks to get up too.  A tamed bird would be very loyal but the only thing I would have to say is they do need a lot of time and interaction.  if you have one of these beautiful birds they will need to be able to keep their very curious minds busy while you are working.  they are not cheap though but are worth the extra cost and when you look at the long life of some parrots they are well worth having as a family member.  I would have to advice you to get hand reared or hand tamed.

I totally understand about the distance, fuel and family, so someone not so far is needed.

Hi and welcome from me ( and my birdies )

I have a caique called Cooper! They're absolutely amazing birds, funny, hopping nutty, love to play and wrestle, truly wonderful birds!!

Im thinking i will have to wait for the right one to come along only problem is i will end up spending this £150 lol

No don't do that, instead see if you can add a little to it occasionally. You need a Parrot Fund jar !

Can I just say (feel free to disregard anything I say) that I think you're going about this the wrong way, trying to fit a bird around a cage rather than a bird around the family. You can easily resell the cage you bought and get another more fitting to the species you want, after all you're looking at decades with your bird, wouldn't you want one that is more of a pet/family member than one that will become more aggressive and territorial and will ignore you while they build nests and so on. This is mostly looking at you staying home most of the time and the bird out of the cage anyway, you can always change a cage but a bird is pretty much a lifetime commitment.

a friend had quakers, and a ring neck and a sun conure.  all noted as bird species with a reputation for noise. the quakers were the only ones she complained about noise.

The cage was bought with intention of quaker or something slightly larger .Also cage was bought via a friend for only £20 (i love a bargain )
