  1. Hi all I’m the mum of a moustached Picasso parakeet, had two amazons as a child growing up in the Caribbean. I’m an artist and I love birds

I guess being young he still needs plenty of naps . There is still time for his beak to change colour it will turn black if a hen and by the age of a year he/she will have its final colour, that is unless it has had a DNA test and you were told it's gender.

Poppy is beautiful! Doing my research though to see if I can manage an Eccie. Would love a big bird and a little one.

Thank you for the advice I will keep an eye out. We were told he was a boy.

Thank you Roz love your Amazon (had one exactly like him) . What’s your Amazon’s name?

Thank you Tonya. His name is Ollie. Because of him I adore all Orange-wings. How lovely to grow up in the Caribbean. What species was your other Amazon? Chu Chu looks so adorable.

The other was a yellow crowned named ‘Jerry’ we adopted him when my Aunt migrated to Canada. He sang nursery rhymes and cried and shook his wings (to imitate my toddler cousin’s shoulder-shake cry). They are real characters. It’s easier to keep them in the Caribbean, they had the full run of the garden all year and ate twice their body weight in mangoes, oranges and guava. Here it’s a bit more complicated to keep them, still figuring it out.:emoji_thinking:

the weather and local foods available, the types of plants and trees around, less predators and you do not have to rely on imported feed or seed all make a difference to how a bird is, having four Amazons living with me I know just how fantastic they are,

Hello and welcome Tonya and Chu Chu from me and my two mini macaws.

Hello Cazimodo and mini Macaws! they are beautiful! My Aunty had a Scarlet and Blue and Gold one. They are majestic looking but the size of the beak and shriek put the fear of god in my 5 year old self !

I had originally thought big when I decided to get a parrot , but I wasn't sure I was brave enough either [emoji1]. Mind you, Ziggy, my female, definitely acts like a big Macaw and she can give a mean bite if the mood takes her!
