Hi im Stuart , full time single dad of 3 .I live in Falkirk (Central Scotland) I am not working for personal reason and i used to spend my days caring for our budgies . But for years i have always wanted a bigger bird and was interested in a Quaker . I have been out and bought a large parrot cage as well as toys, feeding dishes , swings. I am now on the look out for a Quaker type bird.

hey Stuart and welcome to the forum :welcome:  you are in the right place for information, advice and support :) I have little knowledge of Quakers im afraid but there are peeps on here with them, have a nosey around the forum you will find some really great information and any questions feel free to ask as many as you want :)

Thank you , my first contact with Quakers was when i was in Telford and we visited a place called becks bird barn , and there was these 2 wee cheeky Quakers roaming around freely kept landing by us . How easy are they compared to say a budgie . is a Quaker the next best step up from budgies or is there another type that would perhaps seem easier . i have seen some on gum tree selling for £60-£80 which is about my price bracket but i would prefer to go to a breeder or someone on here who is knowledgeable .

Hi Stuart :welcome:   from me and my flock too.

Quakers are also known as Monks parakeet - which you may know. I don't know much about them as to how well they become tame and so on but I am sure some members do and will be along in due course.

Have you considered Cocaktiel, they are dear little parakeets and full of character, many members have those too.

Good luck in your search and any questions ask away someone will be able to answer.

:) thank you . I have considered alot of types although i say i would like a Quaker i am still open to other types and suggestions . I spend most my days in the house only time i go out is perhaps 2-3 hrs a week and also to pick my 11 year old up from school . that will only be until summer when he then start high school and will walk with his big brother and sister . I have a dog who is fine with other animals and has been so gentle with my daughters current budgie . so time love & care is not an issue . I welcome any homechecks before rehoming any bird as well . My budget for purchasing a new feathered friend is only £120 though . im hoping that is enough . i have owned budgies n past myself and have also been around a friend who had a african grey (lovely bird) little to pricey for me though .

Yes there are quite quite members who live  in Scotland, but don't think they are on-line at the moment.....but they will be I am sure  !!!

Ok wasnt sure if there was also wodnered bout breeders travelling to England would be a bit to far

Hi Stuart and welcome from me too

I'm in Glasgow :)

Although I've never owned a Quaker I do know they're known to be noisy (although most parrots can be noisy lol)

I don't know what the price would be to purchase one either (not much help am I)

Green Cheek Conures are wonderful wee parrots, they're bigger than budgies and make great companion birds, I have 2 of them, amoungst others lol

My daughter also has 2 of them and we travelled to England to purchase them from Nikki H a member from here who breeds them, Nikki is an excelkent breeder and it's always worth traveling for the right bird from a reputable breeder.

You say you've already purchased a cage, are you sure it's suitable for a smaller parrot, bar spacings etc?

Anyway welcome once again x

I am from Scotland,  and Angus has a cage exactly like the one Flash has, bet he can walk through the bars,    Unfortunately Angus' cage is done, kerput, shot, he desperately needs a new one but getting one up here is not easy when I need to see them first.

I tried to look at the picture closer and guess what came up?  nice knees

Lol naughty .

I was looking at someone in Fife who has 10 week old  Green cheek conures for sale, Green Male just over 10 weeks and a Pineapple Hen around 13 weeks, both are feeding fine and ready to go.

They have both been DNA sexed and come with a certificate.

These are parent reared. What else should i be looking at the male is £110 and female £140
