bit concerned with this with jasper, happens quite often with her gizzie or the other 3 loonies never have this issue but its also intermittent with jasper, she seems very active and healthy just her droppings can sometimes be very loose she does not drink large amounts of water to cause this i have tried stopping her fruit for a few weeks but no change,am i worrying over nothing?

I agree with Liz, it would be great if you could tell us her daily diet, are her poops bubbly and maybe post a pic of her poops

Julie

If you can't identify anything that she's been eating that could cause it then it might be best to take her to the vets for a few tests. Better to be safe than sorry.

What type of food does she usually get?
daily food is parrot mix of sunflower seeds, vitamins, peepers ,peanuts ,dried fruit,,small seed and grit and fresh fruit normally 3 times a week ,plus they get treats off me they had corn beef and veg stew tonight but i dont give them any pork or anything freid   ,they do however love chicken but they get that once or twice a fortnight

I would cut out or if you can't do that then cut down the sunflower seeds, they are very high in fat and can and do cause lots of problems in parrots when fed in high amounts, also to many peanuts are not good either.

Is Jasper the grey? If so then jasper does not need grit, grit really should only be given to birds that can't husk their seeds.

You also said they get veg stew, now their is nothing wrong with that, depending on how it's cooked and what's put into it, e.g. Salt etc.

You also say corn beef, have you had a look and read if the info on what's actually in the corn beef?

Just by reading Jasper's diet I would say it's probably a dietary problem, obviously I'm no avian vet but I would suggest you take jasper to an avian vet and get full blood work done, with a diet like that which contains highly fatty foods, salt maybe too, there's a chance of some liver problems and vitamin deficiency, if that's the case then these things can be sorted with the right diet, vitamins etc.

Again this is just my personal opinion as I'm no vet.

Have a read if the diet section as there's some fab info there.

Great advice already on this thread.

Maybe try some fresh veg as well as the fruit, sugarsnap peas. peppers and fresh chillis, corn on the cob are popular with a lot of parrots

Corn beef is a processed food so contains a lot of fat and salt and isn't suitable for birds also was the veg stew specially made or just left overs. If it was prepared for human consumption it will have salt etc and won't be suitable. I would urge you to have a read through the diet section and read about the effects of too much salt :(

Also have a read about sunflower seeds. They are high in fat and should be given sparingly.

I think her diet is probably causing the poops but I would still advise a vet visit :)

all fresh veg no salt used they dont eat stew very often though

I'm going to be totally honest with you, that seed mix is awful, there are far too many black sunflower seed and also monkey nuts, in the pic I don't see anything in that mix that is good for your birds, it's far to high in all the bad fatty stuff that can cause so many problems, including fatty liver etc.

I would strongly advise you to stop feeding it and get a better healthier seed, you can get some great seeds mixes from Scarlett's.

Sorry for being blunt but I can tell you love your bird or you wouldn't of posted, so I thought better I was truthful

do appreciate the advice julie wheres scarlet's?

That's a great seed mix, also have a look at the AS5 mixes, they're great too, you could also ring Scarlett or Tristan and they would be very happy to offer you advice on your requirements, they are both very friendly and helpful, they know their stuff too and would not try and sell you something if you don't need it, they're really wonderful :)

I would have to agree about the diet but what I was thinking is would this be a cause of runny poo well if they had a diet that is 70 per cent fruit you may expect it but your diet would cause other problems as stated long term but not normally runny poo.  So I would have to say it might pay to get him checked.  I would also say do not just suddenly change the diet it is used to and phase the new diet in so it will give the bird a chance to get used to the different intake.
