Obi And His Random Attacks

No you're not crazy Ali, just a bird person like the rest of us :) (only bird folk understand this)

I feel they do understand us and listen. Obi is so lovely, he'll grow up to be a wonderful, stable, cuddly grey. Just you see ♥

Only just caught up with this Ali. Sorry to hear he is being a little scallywag. The fact that he has started his first moult won't be helping. Try giving him two mistings a day at the moment and increase hiss amount of sleep time. Try to do some basic training with him (focused step ups) with plenty of rewards when his behaviour is good. It's a good distraction and helps him to focus his attention. If he is nipping and it's starting to hurt push your finger gently into the bite to slightly off balance him while saying a firm no or gently. Remember to reward him every time his behaviour is good.

The problem I'm having is when others are in the room with us he will dive bomb at them and bite me it's usually men ,my 18 year old gets it the worse but I think it's because he's not here much. He is fine with my 14 year old daughter being in the room. He Goes to bed at 10pm and I uncover him at 10 am and he gets showers everyday. He only really gets nippy with me when I ask him something he doesn't want to do like to stop him chewing the blinds or to step up when he knows it's time to go in. His bites are hard pinches he doesn't draw blood.... Yet. x

Ali :)

A large net is what you need!  Seriously though I do feel for you, our late grey used to fly land on me look all nicey nicey then went in for the kill.  Boy did I have some nasty bites from her. I still have some scars too. In fact she hated everyone except hubby, but was my bird  - I chose her!

If you darken the room would that make it any easier to get Obi in ?

Ali its horrible I know, they are a right pain in the arse sometimes!! Ivor bit me today! my lovely Ivor who never bites, are you able to get him to step up and cup your other hand over his wings? this is what I have to do with some of mine if it makes sense xx

He will go in with no problems at bed time when he's tired he steps up and goes in but during the day he's the devil bird. I tried to bribe him with an almond earlier and he pinched it and flew off

Yes I could before but at mo he's one step ahead of me and he tries to bite x

My Charlie has cottoned on to all my blackmail techniques! I now have to resort to grabbing her and she screams like hell and bites visiously. She will forget about this by the time I get home and bring her out again.

Those bites bloody hurt like hell though lol
I will have to resort to that soon ,or I might try stick training which I did with Rooie to help make her friendlier towards me which really helped x

Now last night I was sitting by her cage enjoying a vino, She likes to hang off the glass and try to get some for herself (strictly forbidden obviously) but she does try.

Her cage door was open and it was getting on so whilst she was concentrating on trying to steal my beverage I gently moved her (on my glass) into the cage and she stepped up to her perch. No screaming, no biting, no tantrums....wow it was almost harmonious! So I told her what a good girl she was, closed the door and turned off the UV light. I left her to settle for 1/2 hour before I covered her.

So the motto is to drink more wine in front of her cage....   :applause:       :yahoo:

Wine sounds good lol he was a right git yesterday but he have got a new feather coming right on th bottom of his neck so im hooing its tge moulting thing and not that he dont love me anymore ;)

awww ali sry to hear obi is being a little monkey!

cody comes out in the morning for a few hours then out again in the evening till we go to bed normally.

He bites hes in cage i think he has finally worked that out now, its funny sometimes cos he loves going on the curtain pole and i can only just reach him to step up to get him down....if he doesnt want to come down he often gives me a nip then remembers he shouldnt of done that and puts his head down for a tickle lol

ive read on here you shouldnt put them back in cage but it has worked wonders for cody

were struggling to get him off whistleing onto talking .....he has got whistleing down to a tee!

hope it gets better for you soon :)

cody said to tell obi to behave for his mummy!

I used to cup my hand over jasper and she got wise to that too, they're not stupid these birds. Only once did I have to grab her, and it was mid flight, never again as I thought I'd hurt her. This was a last resort as I'd been chasing her back and forth for half an hour, and was late for work and we were both stressed and knackered. Never again will I grab her :(

This will all pass Ali, obi just needs to learn what you want him to do. I used to walk slowly over to Jaspers cage then quickly put her in, or ask her to step on a cushion. She knows now when I'm going out and is no problem, its sometimes bed times when she gets crafty :)

good thinking Ali, Ivor who is so placid will attack and bite me if I wear a hood or hat, they don't like certain things, nice to hear you had cuddles :)

Well tonight has been horrendous my other half and My brother who lives with us came into the living room and sat down ( which to be honest is not the norm as my brother is not usually here on a evening and my other half is usually pottering around) anyway he was dive bombing biting me acting like a lunatic swinging like a manic off his swing upside down and by this point everyone was on edge including me as I was the one he kept biting . I was really wary of him and I hate it

personally i would put him back in cage as quick as i could after he started bombing

does he do it when your on your own with him at all or is it just when others are around?
