New Aviary Advice

Hi everyone. This is my first post here after just registering.

After months of research and thoughts I have decided I am going to build an aviary and get some conures.

The aviary will be 3ft wide by 4ft, then widen by another 2 ft to 5ft and another 5ft long, it will then turn right in a L shape and be 3ft wide for another 5ft. It will be 6ft 6" high throughout. This is being built onto the side of a brick out building and there will be a hole in the brick work to a 2ft wide by 2ft high by 4ft long interior cage. Which would probably have a couple of boxes in it and a 50cm tubular heater about a foot above for when times get a bit cooler.

So it's going to be built onto the out building so 5ft of one wall is enclosed, and majority of the the other 5ft wall will be enclosed. How much of it needs to be roofed? I'm currently thinking of having a wooden roof built over the 7ft side which goes from the double door to the hole into the out building which would leave about 6ft without a roof. Would this be a problem.

Not sure if it will upload but I have attached a mock up of how I'm planning it all to end up

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and my flock

I am sure those that breed conures will be along to give good advice shortly :)

Hi :welcome:   from me too.

Yes lots of members keep conures and I am sure they will be along with information.

Aviary plans look good. How many birds do you plan to put in there.  Also is this your firs time of keeping birds?

Hi it's my first time with conures but from a young age my dad/uncles have always had finches/canaries/pigeons etc and i have had a lot of involvement with them.

Breeding them is not my plan, at least till I am more experienced. I was originally thinking 4birds but that has recently changed to 2, again until I have more experience. Would 2 pairs be aggressive towards each other? As there are lots of videos online with aviaries with multiple pairs in them

Hi and welcome to The Parrot Club :)

I have no advice to offer you other than to take the advice of Parrot797 :)   He doesn't like to shout about it but he is an amazing breeder and what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing.

The aviary looks lovely though. Will it be wooden or aluminium?

Again originally hardwood was to be my idea but after research it will most likely be aluminium.

Plans seem to have changed a lot the more i keep reading :)

i have no experience with having an aviary or breeding but i would say don't use wood they will destroy it! ill leave the advice to the others but welcome, there are lots of helpful peeps and advice to be found on here :)

If only 1 pair of conures could go in this aviary, would it be due to the size of it or the nature of the birds? Could anything else go in with them? Obviously nothing small.

Conures live in a colony nicely but to breed they will need to be seperated...I have my conures in a wooden one and they are whittling it away nicely!!

I have 2 pairs that live together very happily but aT the mo they are seperated as they have nest bixes
