Insurance

I know this gets asked a fair bit on here.

However as I an currently having a right mate with Exotics Direct and I really do not feel like renewing with them right now.

Can anyone advise if they use a different company. And ideally not the sister company to exotics direct. And if the different company is any good?

Really not interested in anything to do with exotics direct right now.

The only other avian insurance provider I know of is
Equine and Livestock Insurance Company
https://www.eandl.co.uk/
Shirley uses them and never had a problem. I did try and get a quote from them when ED were being a pain, didn’t pursue with them as they wouldn’t cover pre-existing conditions at all.

I was trying to get away from ED as they put a blanket exclusion on all things to do with breathing system, when he had his sinus issue. They put an exclusion on for a whole policy year...then “forgot” to take the exclusion off at the following renewal...which resulted in a complaint and them having to re-examine their files. Luckily I had recorded the phone calls to them.

I honestly didn't think there was another company other than ED (aka Brookes Braithwaite). We discovered an annoying exclusion in our ED policy, (which I guess makes sense, but an injury is an injury and expensive) Any treatment of injury resulting from a fight between your birds ('cos we all know birds NEVER fight) is not included. So a few hundred quid out of their pocket money and stern words to Bebe. Never bite your brothers tongue or foot again. I hope you get something sorted!

I have never bothered to go down the insurance route as thought the monthly premium were expensive. Much less to insure a furred baby. So I have just paid what I needed to when I needed to. It has obviously stopped my AV from having carte blanche but as long as I understand what he wanted to carry out and agreed with it, it was done. I think with all the problems I had with Plum the only thing I refused was a liver biopsy and again with Roo. I think it has worked out by being self funding which btw the AV slaps all over your file LOL. Maybe aim to put some away every month and see how that goes? Keep niggling ED if you think you are right they may give in? :)

I still put money away monthly for them and they have a separate account. But at least with the insurance should I end up with a huge bill I *should* recover most of my money. The amount I pay monthly is tiny in comparison to what I have paid out before for bills before i had the insurance. I wouldn't be happy knowing I didn't have the insurance if needed.

Think I've finally sorted it with ed but we will see!

Well it looks like I will join the insured classes as the quotes seem better than when we last looked for Plum which was approx 40 pounds per month for one bird. Over all I did pay a lot out for Plum but when you equate it down it isn't bad and tbh he could have had my last penny, bless him. Did someone mention you get 10% disc thro' Northern Parrots? :)

If you go online and go through for a quote but then don't buy it they tend to email you offering a discount. At least that's what I've found lol.

Interesting to have another provider.
Always carefully check the policy wording, policy cover levels, and exclusions

Not saying they are connected but Exotic Direct and British Pet Insurance are both in Haywards Heath different addresses !!

Love it when a new member joins and the only two posts they put up are to do with a new insurance company advertising them hmmmm now what make me think …. advertising? Especially when they are posting on old threads and using an avatar that is prolific on the internet being used by multiple places?

@Rio'sRich See there is a horse insurance place registered at same address too
I went and had a nosy around …. Can't see separate listing on companies house and whois says its addy has only been registered last year and renewed this year expiry apparently net year ….
Did you check out the owning company over in Australis?
Insurance policy isn't much cop for quite a few parrot owners anyway can't be insured under 12 weeks nor over 25 years according to their exclusions. Seems more like raptor cover heaps of exclusions according to their policy booklet and quite a few that are just plain dumb!

It pays to do research in all fields including insurance for your birds. Only then can you take an informed choice of what is best for your situation. this may be advertising through the back door so to speak so lets hear more about his grey and photos, I know that as a club we have to be carful of whom we recommend or who recommends them, this club has a reputation to keep so I hope you understand how my thought are and I welcome any parrot carer or lover with or with out a bird.
