Gas Fire

Not sure why I didn't ask this before. Hopefully it is okay.

When aurora is in his cage, is it ok to have the gas fire on? Obviously it is serviced/maintained, and I have a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide detector.

It goes without saying that when he's flying around the fire is off.

Thanks

gas fire is fine, like scarlett says

just make sure aurora dont get to it, a fireguard is brilliant x

Yeah, will be fine. Gas fires and boilers need servicing regularly for our own safety aside from our pets.

Yeah they are fine, I've got mine on at the moment as my boiler has broke down again!!!

Yes gas and oil burners are fine providing that they are serviced regularly and their is a well placed flue outside so that toxic fumes clear away from the building. It is always a must to have a carbon dioxide detector. Open fires need to have regular chimney sweeps to insure the smoke from the fire is driven up the chimney but also should be supervised in case any burning material falls from the fire. A guard is a must for safety as spitting of hot cinders will happen and also to stop birds from approaching the fire. A guard or cover should be in place when the fire is not being used as the chimney can be a place that a bird may go. especially Australian birds like the king parrot whom forage for foods only available after fires have happened. The smell of soot and burnt wood can attract them.

Good to know. My mum has a gas fire and I know it is serviced regularly, but I'll get a carbon monoxide detector to be even safer. I have one next to my boiler at home.

well pointed out Liz well a bowel of water should be near all forms of heating but not too close to electricity to keep the humidity level high when parrots are in a room

Yep, chimney swept every year by a certified sweep :) You must be careful what you burn on an open fire too :)

gas fires fine as others have said there are no toxins given off by the metal at all,i seem to spend a lot of my working hours repairing fires and boilers at the moment :(
