Coco

Hello and welcome, I wish I could answer that question , now I have five greys not one of them have been the same in how they settled or even now they are very different in character, Coco sounds sweet, she will talk when she is ready too, just try to give her good experience's with you but try not to push her too hard

Ive rehomed a 4 year old timenh african grey ive had her 5 days now she started giving us kisses and head tickles but not heard her talk yet how long does it take them to settle to to become to talk

Did you hear her talk before you brought her home?

Every bird settles in at a different pace and you may find in a few weeks she seems to go backwards and doesn't want the kisses or head scratches, or she may continue going forward and start wanting to spend more time with you.

As for talking there is never a guarantee, even if the bird talks up a storm in their previous home, I have known birds get rehomed that never spoke in their new home but had an impressive vocabulary previously. I've also known birds that rarely spoke in their previous home but once settled in to the new one they wouldn't stay quiet.

It does all depend completely on the bird. My first Amazon took a good 6 months to settle in with me. Yet my last Amazon took a couple of weeks if that.

For now I'd take it slowly at the little ones pace.

:welcome: Good for you giving Coco a home.
As has been said there is no guarantee any parrot will talk, but she may surprise you one day when you least expect it. Many tend to talk when you have left the room!
Can we have a photo of Coco please.

we've had a rescue CAG for around 4 months now, the quietest little boy for the first three months, now he will whistle, chat, mimic pretty much constant and over the last 2 weeks (could be us home or maybe just settling in and feeling safe ?) he's been saying a lot more, early days we had maybe 3-4 words, now its around 20 wish.

As above just give him time to adjust and if it happens fantastic, but beware what you wish for :biggrin::biggrin: im still looking for the "Off" switch:D

I deffo dont wont want a off switch i think its so commercial what they can say and pick up carnt wait just sumert telling me that she not going to come out her shell hope im wrong she a lovely bird

its ok Scott super charged his grey up the other day Walker1208. you may find she will talk more when you are out the room at first

This is correct, ours generally only chats when were out, I had to leave a camera on him to find out how much he really talked, we catch the odd word/sentence when we're in the kitchen, but generally he chats away when were out and there's noise.

if were in the room then all we get is a wolf whistle, or "hellllloooooo" and if we open the shoe cupboard we get "see ya later" or if the dog barks we get "oi get down" that's about all he'll say/do in-front of us.

Ye ive been leaveing video on to try catch her when we are out aswell been doing that last 2 days lol

Hello!
Our grey is only 9 months old so a young guy at the moment, when we got him at 6 months old he started the same and would only whistle when we left the room.
Now he never stops, if we are in the room or out of the room he whistles shouts talks and only stops if he is eating or sleeping 😂
He loves to ask what im doing then laugh, sounds wonderful then he says it 100 times an hour.
He says good morning, hello, what you doing, tickle, laura, come here, good boy, you're cute and laughs all the time. If we eat he sits going 'mmmmm nice' whilst watching us and after a tickle he says 'oooooo' in a high pitched voice. Also if he does something he shouldnt such as bite the wall he says 'no Bo' then laughs before running away. He's very young so his vocabulary is expanding but currently these are his favourite things to say in between whistling.
I couldn't wait for him to talk and now he does not stop, your birdie might talk when he settles in more 😂😊

I have developed the mind set if the bird is quiet something suspicious is going on 😂
