I went to stafford show last weekend to buy sack of johnston &jeff moved pulses but they had sold

out .can anyone recommend one that I could buy?

I might be wrong but I would think Scarlets might well have them and if not should know where to get what you want.

I use the Tidymix mixed pulses but as you said the word sack do i presume you have quite a few birds?

If you have you might want to tag in with Lockey (dave) on here he uses a variety of mixes and could probably recommend a good one.

When i used to have lots of birds I did use a good pigeon one and add to it to make it more specific...but obviously that depends on what species of bird your feeding, if they are indoors or outdoors etc

Just thought! The other good people to tag in with and ask what they are offering are Nikki H she breeds greys, conures and keeps a lot of pet Too's, Parrot797 who has the most mindblowing collection of rare species parrots and Threeladies also a a breeder of greys and many others species. So if you have a breeding flock or just lots of pet birds then they would be good people to ask for their recommendations

You could also always go I to your local supermarket o holland and Barrett and get them from there, I have started to to that and mix them all together, mine love the chick peas split peas mung beans amongst others I soak then boil adding some brown rice or quinoa they love em

I might try that Sarah, I have the AV pulse/sprouting mix and have found some will sprout others take a lot longer plus my lot are not over keen.  Guess what they are getting for tea?

Thanks Sarah for putting the idea in my head, Chorley is a good eater but Miss Harry?  anyway they both loved it, the diddie birdies?, no unfortunately.

I buy from Holland and Barrett, local supermarket etc. as I do lots having 11 parrots

There are some small seeds in AV310 that just don't seem to sprout, the larger peas are the first.

Holland and Barrett, they sell all kinds of dried beans, peas, seeds plus the rices, pastas, etc....  but you have to mix your own.  I did get one of their Sprouting Mix's but the birds were even less keen.

My lot seems to prefer the mix cooked, so will include that in their diet now.

Hi Graham

We make a quality pulse and rice soaking mix - mainly human grade ingredients, easy to prepare and readily accepted by most birds. Our website doesn't have customer feedback yet, but plenty of reviews on Northern Parrots website.

If you would like me to send you a sample for your birds to try give me a call during office hours - 01273 512 811 or email me

Hi guys sorry didn't want to start another thread on this so thought I would hijack this one lol

Bought mine done tidymix pulses. I soaked some overnight and then cooked on the hob for 40 mins. However I soaked a few too many, so rather than cooking them all I put the rest back to soak. I've been changing the water regularly, but they've now been soaking for just over 24 hours. Are these still ok to cook and use or would you throw and start again. Is there a maximum soaking time?
