Blood Results

Scarlett one of debbies birds has chronic asper, and this was only found through looking directly into his lungs/airsacs. It is only a small incision but the poor bird has had this done at least 3 times this last year, he is very sleepy afterwards but is fine the next day.

Deb noticed buddys beak was open a lot of the time, at first she thought down to the stress of moving, but it continued until she had him checked out :)

Love those flowers for oliver xxx

What a lovely flower choice for Oliver.

Easier said than done but wait for the Vet to finish his work before speculating and beating yourself up. You are looking after them all so well but sometimes things are out of our hands and we have to accept that.

Harleys beak is never open, his breathing is fine most of the time :) Mark thinks Asper is unlikely, but we won`t take any chances.

Kim, I think you`re right, since losing Oliver all rational thought has gone out the window and I fear the worst!!

Oh Scarlett they do like to wrry us, only you know Harley and can decide what is best to do for him.........whatever you decide, i wish you all the best and hope he is ok :)

Just a thought can the vet tell which white blood cells are raised in number as there are different ones that indicate different things, 2 that show infection (lymphocytes and monocytes), 1 that indicates parasites (Eosinophils) and the other is increased due to allergens (Basophils). ?? Worth asking :)

Erm, a bit above me really. Monocytes was the one that was normal, and his white bloods were 22, 14-16 is normal for a Severe.

Trouble is, Harley is very hormonal, and has behavioural tendancies which vary too so it`s very hard for me to tell what`s 'normal' for him.

I think/hope I would know if he was really ill, but sometimes he`ll be a bit more tired, or sometimes a bit agitated seeming, but that`s usually because he`s been up early as it got light, or he`s annoyed because I`ve been on the phone a lot so worked himself up etc.

He does sneeze a lot and scratch his nose a lot when he preens, and only when he preens!!! I am convinced he has some allergy issues, but not willing to discount the other stuff.

I`ll ask about the bloods when I speak to Mark in 2 weeks time Kat, thanks for that.

I don't want to hijack the thread..... or sound really dumb ( you all know how slow I can be) is a hahns macaw and a severe macaw the same thing..? All this time I thought Harley was a Hahns? Sorry

No Sarah they are different, a hahns is much smaller than a severe.... I adore the severes, was a great pleasure to meet Harley and Lucas!!

Really hope it all sorts it self Scarlett, I'm sure your besides yourself with worry Hun. Sending lots of love to you both xxx

I am Nikki yes, but trying to put it all into perspective.

Harley seems well, whatever this is has been on going for some time. The throat is clear, the spleen liver and kidneys are fine. So whilst we need to investigate what this other issue is, I`m trying to think rationally about it and not get overly worried, just sort it out! I`m doing what the vets say, I`m due back in 4 weeks, he`s on antibiotics, we`re just covering all bases and the fact that mono thingy one was clear is a very good sign.

Sarah...here is Harley against Sidney the Hahns

That's very useful, I knew the Severe was a smaller macaw but didn't realise that they were still quite a bit bigger than the dear little Hahns.

Yes, Severes are less chunky than a Grey but have a long tail so I would say should be treat as around that sized bird :)

He forgives you, he`s kind like that, just don`t stick your fingers in his travel cage next time you visit...just in case!!!
