Hello Newbie Here Wanting Some Advice.

It may also help you to decide what type of bird is best for you from listening to the posts from others. I have never been around a Grey before but listening to others on this forum I feel that I get an insight into their behaviours, mood etc I always thought that if ever I was to get another bird (very unlikely) I would get a Blue Indian Ringneck however since being on the forum and listening to some of the problems others encounter I decided that this would not be the bird for me.

It may pay you Victoria to keep an eye on the thread that the owner has young children and a Green cheek conure that has started biting or nipping the children.  I am glad you have decided to stay
Oh really, least I will get insight and then make the best choice for us.

I started off wanting a Ringneck but already I decided not getting one due to being on here.

I fell in love with one on Youtube (I should know better as I am always saying Youtube can be blamed for a lot of the parrots that end up in sanctuaries) but I think they are more suited to aviary life than as a companion bird- you have to put A LOT into making sure they are tame and remain tame.

I would never have looked at a Caique twice but since being on here I have come to realise what fantastic little birds they are full of character (it's OK Pally I am a one parrot woman- Caiques are safe from me lol)

Hi! Victoria, welcome to the forum l don't come on here everyday as l'm a busy mum of four like you & after working & taking care of our animals don't get much time to watch tv or chat on the forum.

Dont let having children & dogs/cats put you off my children have learnt that when our budgie Ben & IRN Percy are out that they need to make sure that the doors are shut. Our dog isn't keen on birds so she disappears into the porch!!! You'll find a parrot that you like probably when you least expect it & all l will say is that every parrot has good & bad points & everyone here will tell you their experiences. I set my heart on an IRN although in the long run my aim is to gave a macaw or amazon but not just yet. I researched alot & the wonderful people on here gave plenty of advice but l found Percy through a recommendation & he's a real character.

If you are able to why don't you go to the parrot show at Stafford to see a variety of breeders & get an insight. I've never been but know afew people off here are going. Good luck in whatever you decide & keep us updated :)

Victoria I will just say what I always say to my wife who always looks at downsides first. Don't let what "might" happen stop you from living your life and being happy. I always look at reasons to do something I want to do before I think about the negatives. If we only lived our lives based on what "could" happen then we would all live in a shelter underground drinking only water and eating powdered food. There are downsides to everything so don't let them stop you embarking on an exciting stage of your life. Everyone told me I was mad to get an 8 week old GSD puppy when my daughter was 2 weeks old. It worked out perfectly for us. We made it work because we wanted it to.

You will find your way and in 6 months time you will be saying "can you believe I almost didn't get a bird"

Hi ya. I'm still about def going to get myself bird in the near future just looking for the right bird to come my way.

I think that the Australian King parrot is one of the better birds to keep when children are about as the do not bite (Normally) and can be very friendly with the children as well
