Scarlett and Zooamazons, thank you for your very wise words, I feel much happier about taking on a bird. Still a lot of thinking to do, but I do have one species that I keep coming back to time and again – and I may just have found a breeder!
Now comes the hard part – being patient, doing more research and saving up the pennies!
have you tried http://parrotrescueuk.com/ i think they have some safe houses down your way or near to you, give them a call as well as the others mentioned and good luck with your search
Parrot breeders do seem to be very thin on the ground in Cornwall and the South West - or just very secretive (understandably). I've been searching online for months and years the closest Greenwing Macaw breeder I've found so far is in the Midlands. Not ideal.
Hiya Hiccuping-Hippo, I have been through the same process as you...I spent months researching species, typical characteristics, peoples views before I decided on an Eckie, who will be moving in with me in a few weeks Dave (Lockey) breeds the birds you are thinking of, maybe you could chat to him about them? (I'm not sure, but he might agree to deliver to you). Good luck with your decision making and welcome to the forum
