Subject: Advice Needed: Netting for Outdoor Flight and Affordable Parrot Toys

Hello fellow parrot Family! ,

I'm seeking some advice on two topics related to caring for my feathered friends.

Firstly, I'm planning to net my garden to allow my Blue and Gold Macaw, Honey, and her parrot companion, a Blue Fronted Amazon, to enjoy some outdoor flight during the summer months. this is will be first time they are together in a open area I'm looking for recommendations on the type of netting to purchase. It's crucial that the netting is almost cut-proof to prevent any escape attempts. While Honey has some experience flying outdoors under supervision, my brother's parrot is a novice to outdoor flight. Additionally, I'm curious about who typically handles the installation of such netting—is it a job for a professional or something I can manage myself with proper guidance?

Secondly, I'm hoping to find a more budget-friendly approach to purchasing parrot toys. Currently, I find myself spending between £500-£700 per month on toys alone, only to have them demolished within hours! Does anyone know of any websites or methods for acquiring durable yet affordable parrot toys? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and insights!

Thanks a million ,

Nothing netting wise unless you go metal is totally unchewable
Personally I would go for cargo netting with this size species but remember small birds like sparrows 3rd will still get through so if bird flu gets bad again this year you may end up with issues and not be able to have outside time.
Remember your neighbours though nothing to upset them.
Would say go for height not just low down. You'd also have to double check plants in the garden plus all escape routes like below fence and no gaps for things like weasels to get through.

Hi, unfortunately I can't advise ref the netting. We did consider it years ago, but couldn't find anything suitable for such strong beaks. Plus the issue of getting the height, the risk of escape and the chance of wild birds getting caught in it were more than we wanted to deal with. It was getting to the point of zoo grade installation (ie... very expensive, and not at all temporary for good weather). We opted for a large aluminium aviary which we had made to our specs by Rosemead Aviaries. Yes it's a permanent fixture in the garden, despite only being used for a few months of the year. But we keep bird safe plants in it so it's not totally bare (it is at the moment 'cos the pots need refreshing ). But for us personally it was the best option with the least worries attached!

Toy wise, the aviary is set up and taken down before and after each use so the ropes, perches and toys last longer. We've got a 'quick' selection for just a couple of hours, and a 'full day' option which is obviously more elaborate.

To provide your Blue and Gold Macaw and Blue Fronted Amazon with safe outdoor flight, opt for durable polyethylene or nylon netting from reputable brands like Bird Barrier or Pinnon Hatch Farms. Although DIY installation is possible for those skilled with tools, hiring a professional ensures the netting is securely installed, safeguarding your birds during outdoor activities.

For affordable parrot toys, consider the convenience of pay-by-phone https://pay-by-phone-casino.com/ options with online retailers, allowing for easy and budget-friendly purchases. Additionally, embracing DIY toy-making using safe, non-toxic materials like untreated wood, cardboard, and natural fibers can drastically reduce costs. Resources such as Pinterest and bird forums offer plenty of creative DIY toy ideas. Everyday household items also serve as entertaining and safe toys for parrots, offering cost-effective alternatives to store-bought toys.
