Ok thank you.Just keep it clean, no need to put anything on it unless it gets infected, Wounds can be effectively cleaned with salt water you must first boil the water before leaving it to cool. 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 pint of water is safe to use in all species.
I will try To keep calm, it’s just this suddenly became a lot more serious!Just don't panic, this is the worst thing you can do. Just try the vet that you went to first of all, if not, try a practice nearby.
i did check and only the only thing out of date is the neomycin sulphate cream (i am not even sure what its supposed to be used for..) i will definitely get some things that could have helped with the pain to add to the kit, so i am better prepared next time.Winnie you hoodlum birdie!
After writing a whole load of stuff I thought nope easier just to say Yup what Dan&Marley wrote as that will see you through to getting to the vets
You don't have anything in your first aid box for pain anyway other thing is any of it in date? Nine times out of 10 in my human kit I go to look for something and find it went out of date a year ago by the time I actually want to use it
thank you for this, i will try to get some of the things they listed for wounds. The neomycin sulphate cream is actually the best item you have in there
Its an anti microbial cream and some forms of the cream have antibiotics in it.
This link should give you a list of all the meds you may come across and the ability to look them up for what use they have in our birdies some are tagged as being not to be used on birds so its always good to double check that what we have is actually safe
Avian Medicine: Princilpes and Application
thats very interesting. i will make sure i know what i am doing before i ever give winnie medicine, and that it is approved by my vet.Pain med wise you have to know what your doing birds have different metabolic rates to us humans, dosages have to be carefully checked and if we administer and the vet has to administer there after we can really make a mess of things!
I remember about 10 years ago I locked my back and ended up in hospital and then at home on floor rest for 3 weeks I couldn't stand up was ridiculous the pain mind blowing! They put me on a human drug and I was away with the fairies but still in pain. Anyway a month later my little grey Henni had an emergency avian appointment and feck me she was put on the same drug I had been on ..... her dosage was higher than I had and it hardly even effected her my weight 10stone human ... her weight 375gm bird but because with that particular drug she metabolised it in a different way to a human does it had very little effect on her but was enough to take the edge off her ... had I had her dosage of that particular drug I would have been a zombie for months!
thats great to know! no doubt i would be panicked if i didn't!Wonderful news fingers crossed everything happens in a speedy manner and Winnie can wiggle her tootsies freely in the wind there after
Oh by the way ... even thought the leg ring is very light you may notice Winnie walking strangely lifting that leg very high for a few hours. Two of mine joined the funny walking brigade lifting the ex-leg ring leg exceptionally high until they got used to the ring being off ... made me giggle at their antics
