Willow branches/perches.

Yup they are willow 😁

So all those pics are willow ?

Forgot about the little shelves this company makes they may be of interest am sure you could knock up a few of these too.
Those look great, thank you.
I could certainly make some ladders and such fairly easily, I’d love some shelves but that means finding something bigger, maybe one step at a time, lol.

Do I need to do anything special with the willow branches, cleaning wise ?
I’d like to leave bark in if possible but if it’s safer I’m happy to strip.
Would a good spray with F10 sort them or should I scrub them then spray ?

Hi, Me again, surprise, surprise

please can i just check these are willow, im 90% sure but as they are new growth i don't have the tell, tell signs of hanging or fluffy worm things, but if so then ive found 30-40 new growing bits like this, all growing straight up and fresh, green goodness, most about 1"1/2 to 2" at base and 10-12ft long/high.

this is all from one shoot/branch.

Lol those fluffy worm things are called Catkins!
Looks like Willow to me.

Am not sure whether to dig up and give away our Olive tree or to use the wood for perches according to google they are safe.

thanks, as for our tree, i'm loving this "make my own" thing, i'm going to try perches, then ladders and then i want to make him a bridge, if it was me and safe id certainly make some toys and bits out of it.

Also done a quick google and found a dozen or more sites saying tis safe, but none i know of/trust.

maybe this ? https://www.parrots.org/ask-an-expert/safe-plants-for-parrots

does anyone know a suitable or a supplier of some type of bird safe wire, im thinking SS 2/3mm or something similar.

I want to make a bridge and/or a ladder and would prefer to use wire for cleanliness and also i would like it to be thin and i'm not convinced thin leather or rope will hold up for very long.

If you do a search on the web for SS wire, some wire company should come up, that is how I find some and is not expensive.

cheers, i'll have another go, all i found was twisted type wire cable which will have oil/grease in it.

Anyone needing willow should call at our place in Lincolnshire, we have 3 big willow trees which we have to pollard or the house will fall down (but not if this pandemic finishes and I can move out). If you feel like a day out, is it allowed yet?

driving for essential reasons, i believe free willow will fall in to the category :aplastao:

but im not entirely sure id get away with a 500 mile round trip :nono:

@Scott199 Thought you would be nearer Somerset. We moved here from the Highlands so everywhere is South.

Driving for essential reasons? They are sat at the back of the pub near us drinking in the sun, never asked me to join though. Cars busier than normal, don't think is much lockdown here.

I thought I’d try to grow my own and I actually succeeded

never actually thought it through, no idea where to plant a tree in my garden:biggrin:

Brilliant idea and since you have done that really really well your next bucket growing session should be bamboo but be warned keep it in a bucket that stuff goes crazy but the birdies love it
