Went for a walk to blow away the cobwebs today and managed to have a very close encounter with a water rail so close I had issues taking pictures but manage to get one that I have had to reduce drastically in size for the forum to allow me to post it original is over 3mg it was so close. People kept telling me they looked like moor hens so trying to spot my first one was a task and a half … they don't look like them to me they are about the size of a blackbird with something akin to a wrens tail and long curved beak like a curlew no wonder I never knew what on earth I was looking for.
