Wall protection?

Hi everyone! I'm sure everyone's dealt with this before, but I'm having such an issue with the babies making a mess of the wall behind their cages 😂😭 it mostly only happens when they're eating fruit, like berries and strawberries and all that jazz.

It's just frustrating because I can't wipe off the food without wiping off the paint on the wall 😂

We're planning on repainting soon but I don't want to just repaint every time they make mess 😩 anyone have any suggestions? I'd hate to cut the messy foods from them because they're some of their favourite foods, but it just frustrates me to see huge splats of red and blue everywhere 😂

Mmmm, we've all been there! Some people use a washable paint, some a plastic or perspex screen (orsimilar). I now have a wall behind Dora's main cage that can be repainted easily...but she rarely eats there! She is only allowed raspberries, pomegranate and other really messy fruit on her perch on the table or worksurface.

As Diana suggested repaint then screw perspective sheets to the wall easy to clean and also stops wallpaper from being chewed lol

Perspex is a good idea, i didn't do this as my house is currently rented but as soon as we buy we will also be taking this route.

Currently we painted with a washable paint which does the job 😊

I have an acrylic bird feeder that helps with that. It is totally clear.
The birds need to get inside it to eat, even if they trash their beaks around the leftovers of food stay inside the acrylic cube.

It took sometime for them to get used to it but no they recognize it as a place for food. The downside is cleaning the inside of the feeder, nevertheless is better than cleaning walls.

OOOOH, do you know what brand of paint you used? I'm also living rented currently, and definitely looking into perspex, but if I can get a washable paint that works well I might do that! Thanks!

Be careful choosing the paint, be aware of the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds), usually given as gram per liter.
This is the amount of organic volatile compounds that are released as the paint dries. It may be harmful for humans, birds are even more susceptible.

Thank you! I'll keep an eye out, and probably move then to another room for the day when we paint anyway :)

I have 'washable' paint in my house. That I painted myself when I moved in. It's washable all right, the paint washes right off! 😂😂

I wouldn't bother with washable paint personally, I'd just use perspex or shower curtains. You should be able to attach a shower curtain to the wall easy enough, either by pinning it up or double sided tape. Failing that put it directly onto the cage hanging it down over the back. But only whilst you're feeding the messy food, they'll probably try to chew it otherwise. Beak holes will defeat the purpose of the shower curtain 😂
