Urgent Advice Please- Alfie Is Sick

Vet told me not to panic too much about the fainting. He said until his strength returns I can expect this to happen. His poop isn't normal.but he said it is unlikely to be normal for a while due to the medication and change in diet. He is very happy for me to give Alfie baby parrot food,.

He said if Alfie is the same tomorrow he would like me to take him outside in the sun (when it is warm but not too hot), for a while. I am to continue to offer fluids and food every 2-3 hours. Results from his poop test not back yet. He said lots of rest is still important.

I am still concerned about his wing, it just droops and he keeps standing on it. The vet said not to worry and he will take another look on Monday.

The wing is the least of the issues and if he is parked on the floor rather than on a perch in his travel cage then you can always just prop it slightly.
Did he have a night fright or something similar prior to becoming poorly? pondering if he has damaged the wing or caught it in the cage and all that is going on at the moment is due to a sever fright rather than a bug ….. you don't have any cats lurking or even a large roach coming in from outside could do it .....?

There are cats outside but he wouldn't be able to see them from where his cage is and the window shutters are closed at night. He does have occasional night terrors where he screams but hasn't had one for a while.

His drooping wing came after he got sick. I did think maybe he was feeling sick and fell off his perch and I just didn't see or hear it. The vet did an examination of it when we saw him and said there was nothing to worry about there. Who knows? He is sleeping now so I am going to have a nap. Mum said she will keep an eye on him.

Not very good. I am at a loss what to do. He seemed to be far more alert yesterday afternoon. He was awake for most much of it. He was eating about a teaspoon of baby food every 3 hours, eating some grapes and reluctantly drinking honey water. And then about 11.30pm it is like someone put a pin in his energy. I found him sleeping against the bars and he was not responsive. He eventually opened his eyes but has had no energy since. I have been giving him his honey and water and he had about 3 grapes earlier but he is sleeping. It looked like he was improving yesterday but he worse now. I have contacted the vet, just waiting to hear from him.

He is such a pitiful sight and every now and again makes sense a sad little noise.

Hmmm that's not good :(
Whatever it is that your injecting him with should have been working by now and it doesn't seem to be thought process would be … it's not what they thought it was and requires other meds …. are the results back yet from the samples they took?

Secondary thought … have you looked all over his body between his feathers etc to check his skin for any little bites or scratched etc?
Just wondering about tick bite

I have asked the vet about the results because I don't think his medication is working. The vet checked him for bites/ parasites. He should get back to me soon.

Have another look just in case ..... a small tick can be easily missed only takes a small feather to cover it or for it to be on the move at the time of looking. Check specifically near the wing that is drooping and dropping arm pit area.
Your looking for a small pale black / brown pimple / mole / birth mark looking like of thing that is slightly raised.

On the plus side his poop has lightened, is more wet, no yellow or brown- greener and more formed . Although I think I am clutching at straws. He had a bit of formula food, but he gets so aggressive with the spoon (just charged the door). On the one hand I think maybe having the energy to charge is a good thing but it takes so much out of him I feel he is taking 1 step forward and 2 back.

I saw him preening for the first time in days yesterday but nothing since.

Keep going Lisa, it does feel, like one steep forward and then back again, it was like that when Chiko was ill. come on Alfie we all love you xxx
Same with Frodo. He was totally exhausted for the first few days of treatment and just wanted to sleep, but I had to keep insisting on food to keep him going. Had the added stress of Ziggy, who kept attacking the poor boy. Hopefully the vet can allay your worries a bit. [emoji847]
