I got to visit Tropical Birdland today, as my work finished early. Just by myself, I'd say 2hrs was enough time to see everything and everyone, and I was there when they started putting the birds away for the evening.
Little Mango the sun conure flew to my shoulder before I even bought my entry! And then he/she crawled into my hair and came round the park with me - stopping me going in the Alexandrine enclosure! What a sweetie, until another bird came to my other shoulder and Mango didn't like that!
The bird garden section has lots of birds outdoors, with perches, ropes and trees to sit in. You can tell which birds want to come to you - lots of them lift a foot to show they want to step up. I got my coat nibbled by a white headed caique and a patagonian conure (I think). Did get a nip from an African Grey but as a bird owner, I'm used to that and know it was my fault.
Several of the birds had plucked and some had clipped wings - I hope these are the rescue birds adopted by the park and not a consequence of them living there.
Worth a little visit for anyone into birds
