Good morning everybody!
Got a couple of things to ask this morning but will put it all in this thread so not to make loads! The main bit of advice is in relation to harness training.
As you all know i have bo the African grey who is my absolute love! Fifi my parolette was never one for training, she steps up down and flys back to you when you call her name but she's never shown any more interest in the basics which is fine, but Bo is so engaging! Some members recommended to teach him to have his feet touched and wings lifted and also to train him with a harness.
He lets us lift one wing fully and we are now working on the other wing too, he's funny about his feet but allows us to touch them and looks at me as if to say get that treat here right now girl
Just wondering if anybody has any good recommendations for harnesses? In summer we put Fifi's cage in the garden when we are sat out and she loves the fresh air, unfortunatley we have no space for an outdoor aviary (currently renting our first house) and Bo's cage took four people to fit through our door so moving that isn't an option. We won't ever leave him alone but thought if he could sit on his java stand outside in summer when we are out a harness will stop him flying off for good (when his wing grows back)
Or any other suggestions are welcome!
Second is part training related, Bo and Fi are both now on a seeded blend with no sunflower seeds and no peanuts. This along with their pellets and fresh fruit/veg daily, i use some good nuts to train and a small amount in foraging toys to get their beaks working. However someone recently told me this kind of seeded blend is not healthy, am i right in thinking they are mistaken? Put a lot of time into the diet of these birds and want them to be their healthiest.
Thanks all in advance!
