Hi everyone! Opal seems to be tearing her toys apart and one of them has completely broken so im assuming she's enjoying them! She doesn't play with them unless she's in her cage which is only through the night time though. There's so much choice to choose from, can you guys recommend anything fun to get her that will keep her entertained in or out of her cage? Thanks guys!x

Yes it is a mine field out there with so many to choose from, if you post a photo of what is left of the toys maybe one of us can recognise them

Does she have foragers? Mine love the buffet balls, you can get them cage mounted, hanging and loose. I stuff them with shredded paper and treats.

Also the wheel forager that goes on the side of the cage. In fact mine like any sort of foragers but it is best to start easy and work your way up. I always show them how to do it at first and then let them try. Some are smarter than others 🤣

Then I like to keep a rotation of shredding toys, for mine thats the wooden ones as they demolish them! Any big wooden toys, hanging ones, ladders etc. I do try and avoid ones with rope or string and any that have them i remove it or trim it right back if I can't remove it and keep a close eye.

Have you seen the java toys? They do the hanging roots which mine enjoy. Also the ones that look like 4 ladders out together to form a square - can't remember the name of them? They arent cheap and they are quite big but mine have one of those each aswell and I hang toys inside of the middle to make it more interesting for them.

Then there's the hanging coconut one that mine love, also stuff these with hidden treats.

You can get the little forager boxes or the 'finger traps' ones and hide treats in those. Or you can use clean cardboard, eggboxes are a good choice, and make your own. Also you can cut up cardboard and thread it to make a hanging shredder yourself.

If they are destroying their toys they must be enjoying them :) though it can be difficult to find ones that last more than 5 minutes!

Thank you very much. She spends most of her time out of the cage, but she doesnt do anything she just sits there and flys around occasionally. Could she be bored?

Some of mine tend to just sit in one place once they are out as well. Does she have anything outside of the cage to entertain her? A playstand or toys you hang outside of the cage?

I have a playstand for mine, and also hang some of their toys on the outside of the cage for them. Depending on the style of cage you have you may be able to make a play area on top of the cage as well.

Amzons can be lazy but they take in all what is happening around them. you can try putting some toys on the outside of the cage or even make up a separate perch using safe tree branches and hang toys off of that, this can be placed near the cage, and hopefully encourage Opal to fly to it when out.

Hm OK not as easy to attach toys to on that one.

How good at DIY are you?

You could make something to attach onto the stand to put toys on or you could build a stand to go next to it to hang toys from.

With the dishes you can put foot toys in one with treats scattered in there. Mine love foot toys, especially the screw shaped ones that they need to undo and redo.

My grey also destroys his toys in no time, to be fair my parrotlet has a busy little beak and she goes through many!

Bo loves anything he can destroy, he also loves foraging treat toys and really enjoys playing with these. He will enjoy any toy we get him but sometimes he picks and chooses his favourite.

Sometimes if i am struggling with selecting toys and sometimes i feel like im getting the same ones over and over again, scarlett parrot essentials have an option of a box where you select the size of the bird and how much you want to spend and they select a random bundle of toys.

For my parrotlet this has worked well, this time round i selected a bundle for £30 and ended up with so many toys id never have thought of for her! She loved every one of them!
For Bo because he comes under a ‘medium beak’ on the toy bundle, i have found you need to spend more to get a decent selection of toys, however i think it is worth it if you’re struggling with what toys to get because it you’d get toys you wouldn’t normally pick! 🙂

This might not work for everybody though!

Hi everyone. Again! So im looking at getting her a play stand as a pose to the little t bar stand shown above. Is there any you guys would recommend?

Have a good look at the second hand market hun, you could pick up a larger play stand or tree? Just one thought. is a stand the best option? Would a cage with a playtop be better? Only you can work out what is best for your bird hun.

I currently have a cage for Bo with a play top, i am planning on upgrading his cage but at the minute due to his clipped wing i like this cage with the play top because he has a secure safe place to play.
It has two bowls and a very decent size flat top which i have put foot toys on, also have dangled toys off his cage etc and he spends a lot of his time on here.

I also have a table top java stand, it’s very big and bulky and takes up our whole table but the birds do enjoy it. I have a swing off this with loads of toys hanging from it.
I have missed some great deals on full tree stands on the second hand market, as soon as Bo has his full wing back his cage is getting changed to another and im planning on a floor tree play stand as well as our table top one 🙂

I gather he is only young? Chorley, OWA used to love swinging around on things, he stole my cockatiels, ermm, not sure what it is called a circle covered in white rope and hanging down from 3 ropes, cheap from Zooplus but he loved it, such silly poses, he also liked the treasure chests, just a plastic box with holes in and he would take whatever was inside and throw it on the floor if not edible, which it rarely was, they can be bought at most parrot supplies online. Now he is older, 8, he plays very little and spends all day sulking because his girlfriend is so horrid with him.
