Hello everyone, I'm James, I'm 16 years old, and I have a one year old ringneck called Rio, Rio will take food from my hand but sometimes he'll act aggressive, I have had him 13 days now, I know it's early, but I need some tips(help in general) on how to tame him

(Also he won't bite hard)

13 days is not long, if you read some of the other threads and the link that I gave you, you will know and I can't stress enough, lots of patience and baby steps is required.

What I do is let the birds come to me, if he is biting you, this could be him telling you that he is not ready yet, how ever parrots use their beaks like we use our hands, if he is not hurting you when he bites, he could be just exploring.

Avoid direct eye contact with your parrot as they see this as threatening. Spend a minute max a day training and build this up to a maximum of 5 minutes.

Remove all treats from his cage, only feed your bird his main feed within the cage ie. fruit, veg and seeds. Keep any of his favourite treats for training only. Finish training on a high with a big reward at the end, I use sunflower seeds for Missy and a small piece of biscuit for the final treat, (make sure that it is only a small piece of biscuit and check the ingredients to make sure it don't contain sugar or salt or anything else that they can't have, baby biscuits like in link below are OK I give a finger nail size to Missy).

Not all of our birds we own (and we have 13 of them) are all tame, some I can handle, others I can't, some I can partially handle but have to be on my guard as they can be like Jekyll and Hyde.

Clicker training is also good to do

Also check out @Roz training threads in the Training section (the best ones are sticky/at the top of the section), lot of good advice can be found there. Just be patience, and lots of tiny baby steps
