Tailspotter He He He

I wouldn't panic about not seeing her flight feathers coming through Kerstin as in reality it can take a couple of years for them to fully come through - you've still only had her a short time but I would have thought come the summer she will start moulting her flight feathers then.

Its great to get an opinion like Squid's who has actually been through it xx

yes its great and i really appreciate chatting to Squid.. its very interesting .. and helpful and makes me thinking a lot

i know Ann-Marie.. i have different worries and thoughts.. its the falling, its Luna there now who pushs her now the little bugger, her confidence and so on... as you know the bird room is getting better and she is out, well they are , most of time you cant just watch them 24/7 and i would die if something happen to her because she felt and damage a blood feather or something like that and i wasnt there..as this can happen when she is in the cage as well..thank god she doesnt fall like when i got her,..she felt of her perch a few times a day, had no balance at all... oh well...

it is and I know exactly how you feel as Budge goes down heavy when he falls - I think Budge and Baby are in a similar place with their wings.

When I went to the pet shop I didn't think her feathers look clipped so wonder if its a new thing and she only did it just before you took her - that would explain why she was falling so much when you got her and is now improving??? Just a thought .......

Bless you, your really worrying arent you? you are going through exactly what i went through, dont worry, our birds are very intelligent, and the only reason they fall is normally when they are spooked or the environment entices them to try to fly ie: a treat, food, poitive reinforcement, I adjusted the environment to suit Eric, I purchased perches for the exterior of the cage, then added the rope netting, so basically he could climb all around the room. I know the danger of them falling and breaking the sternum, which would be tragic, but your bird has enough feathers to be able to glide down..Eric had nothing, that was the problem. My other problem was I did the course after the operation, I am not thinking about the money I could have saved, it was more that I now know i think I could have helped him in other ways btw the procedure was £247 pounds sterling. Anyway, she is your bird and you know her and what will help her, and I am positive you will make the right decision...you have to live with a bird to know whats best for it...we will all support you whatever you decide.

Good thought there Ann-Marie.... I still dont get it..i asked her again on Sunday to be absolutly honest regarding baby and she said she hasnt done it... well we all know and see something is wrong.. and again none of her birds are clipped.. but thats old cheese ( we say in germany..its past..gone...over with it )

Sometimes she falls hard yes..other times its a bit gliding yes.. might be like you say squid... depends on situation and if she has "time" to react properly by gliding a bit....

and yes I really worry - she means the world to me..she is very special to me..Luna is as well in a different way.. hard to explain lol

Thanks for your support and i will go for a consultation and go from there xxx

I agree for Baby that she is now well and truly out of the way of the horrible place but I do feel so sorry for the other birds there and to out right lie about clipping a birds wings is disgraceful - especially when you had to part with a lot of money to get her out of there. Like you I just don't get why she has done it. Anyway I'm pretty sure someone will go in that shop one day and just report her!

But for Baby at least she is out of the way - let see what your consultation brings xx

I have heard of bird where the wings are "stunted" at birth, birds thatnare never clipped but have never flown?

hmmm thats interesting squid !!!!! ... as her brother who is still in the pet shop looks same really..

I know Ann-Marie.. well we all know most of the petshop are not the cleanest anyway and with small cages.. and again like you know we became friends by now and i see improvement and she kept her promise towards me and havent got new birds in and none of the birds are clipped..not hers not the ones for sale.. and all of them get out of cage time really, whenever i go there one of them is upstairs in living area on stand - so why do it to the greys..she got them when they were a bit over 3 months old and she said from start she just dont know what happened to their wings....

I know I paid some money but it was worth it - she is gorgeous.. if i could i would get her brother out there as well believe me

well thats weird as I know with her Brother when we went in he definitely had all his wings as he was flying xx

as far as i know from day one i walked in there they both never could fly.. she mentioned mice - yes they wouldnt sit still, she also said maybe the big macaw chewed at the wings.. again why would they sit still.... she really says she dont know what happened...... oh well..doesnt get us anywhere Ann-marie lol

cant change it now anyway - and after the consultation i might know better as i am sure the Vet will be able to clearly say its cut/clipped or something else xxx

yeah we're better leaving this one alone as I just can't get my head around it and the woman just winds me up xx

Thank you Squid :)

It is interesting to hear you had gone down this route and do regret it. I am very much like i said before let nature take its course. As you have read i have been through having a clipped grey and then a flighted one. In the meantime i did what you did and made his environment as accessable as possible, so he could climb every where

Kerstin, i must say Baby's feather condition looks fab, and getting her checked would not be a bad thing. Also Ann-Marie with udge, although i don't agree with imping i will support you both in whatever you decide :rose:

I know kat and thanks again xxxx

i will book her in for next tuesday if I get an appointment, but Dr.Jones saw a picture of her and he thinks she dont need the repair done but want to see her for a general check. So tomorrow i ring as they closed this afternoon ;) x

Good Luck to you both, sounds like a good vet, I dont think she needs it either  But a check up is always good, and very interesting if you have bloods done..I found it really helpful, because liver test etc shows good/bad diet, and because all of mine pretty much eat the same diet, I was happy when Erics came back good as far as diet vits etc, means all my others are probably good too

I know what you means Squid its taken me three vets to find one I am really happy with who took samples xx
