Sun Conure Choking Hazards?

Hi everyone!

So we got our baby sun conure recently. She's a little wild, still. But she loves to play and pick at EVERYTHING! Which is fantastic. I know she'll never be picky about toys!

Anyhow, I make a lot of my own toys because they're so expensive. I use cheap little plastic beads maybe the size of a large pea. She will sometimes get one loose from the toys and chew on it. I don't think she can break it into pieces, but do you think she may try to swallow it whole? It would be a shame to have to eliminate these beads from her toys. She loves to play with them so much. Is choking something I have to worry about?

Thanks!!

I think over here they call them pony beads and are also used on parrot toys that are purchased. It's something that has always concerned me so I remove them and replace with wood beads, and on occasions untreated pine door knobs  there seems to be many things is you look around which are usable.

I do have concerns about plastics in toys as bits can be chewed off or beads and balls split.... I know what you mean about making toys...I do a lot of my own too, as my Amazon is such a chewer of wood, it would bankrupt us if we bought ready made toys.
Can you source some acrylic beads or the zoo max acrylic shapes?

I just looked online. They look great! Thanks!

I am fond of baby teething toys for parrots as they are at least made of none toxic stuff- local charity shop sells second hand ones for 49p each. I think its only me and other pet owners buy them as I can't imagine using second hand teething toys for a human baby but my Sophie loves the bright colours and rattles of the baby toys.
ps some of my girls ready made toys came with very small beads and I remove them and bin as I do not trust her not to eat them.
the other cheaper range of toys to look at is stuff sold for pet rodents- there are lovely chewable wicker things and wooden things made for pet rats etc and they are MUCH cheaper then parrot toys

Thanks for your suggestions! I also find that cat toys are much more inexpensive and she loves them! Like those cylinders with the bell in them held in by little bars and a little feather at the end. That is her absolute favorite toy.
