Strange Growth

Hi guys

Just wondering if anybody could help.

My mum acquired a parrot from an old lady on her street who was going into a home last week.

The bird came with a large growth on its underside. It has been booked in to see an avarian vet on Wednesday but thought I would post to see if anybody had any ideas what it is.

It doesn't seem to bother it and seems happy in itself.

Here is a picture of it:

:welcome: good for your mum giving the ladies parrot a home. Nice to hear you have an avian vets appointment, maybe it's a cyst I really don't know. @DizzyBlue ??

Good grief!
Well done to your mum for taking the bird on. Is it a blue fronted Amazon?
Well only an avian vet is going to be able to say what that is.
Could be heaps of things luckily not all tumours are cancerous and heaps can be treated and sorted out.
it could be an abscess or an ingrown feather follicle or a fat sum or the dreaded C word.
Birds are exceptionally good at hiding their ailments as a bird in the wild showing any weakness or illness or pain immediately makes it vulnerable to being predated. Usually humans spot a bird feeling ill when it's literally succumbing to it's illness that's how good they are at hiding things bothering them.
I really hope you will come and update us as to what is found the treatment etc
Have you ever owned a parrot before? We have heaps of information you can feel free to read up on If you haven't. :)

Thanks for replying.

I myslef have only had a budgie when i was a kid so not too clued up about the different parrot/parakeet species so not really sure what my mums new bird is.

This is the first bird my mum has had too. She has always like greys though so it would have been inevitable her getting a bird sooner or later lol. It was kind of an emergency thing where it was pretty much the lady inviting her round and asking her to look after him. She has known the lady for years.

I say he but he might be a she. All that we really know is that his name is Robby.

He looks overweight and my mum said she was told that the old lady's great grandkids used to sneak it junk good all of time including McDonalds fries which my mum was pretty mortified with.

I will update you what the vet says and I will get a pic of him next time I am up there so you can ID him.

Large green bird red feather in the wing black/grey legs i am going for species as blue front amazon...
Mcdonalds ..... :camper::camper: holy cow riding bicycle!!!

Stunning and I was completely wrong :) he's an orange winged amazon
And your mum was totally correct about him being overweight and
Ammies are very prone to being over indulgent shall we say!I
But he/she is beautiful :feel_loved:

Didnt want to read an run is the growth on the back of one on his/her legs or near its vent? Kind of looks fit to burst though!

It looks like a abscess or a tumour. To me it looks like its in front of the vent to, so don't think its a prolapse. He looks over weight, poor little thing.

What a beautiful Orange-wing! Golly that growth is alarming. So glad he’s got a vet appointment on Wednesday. Do please let us know how he gets on.
