Good Afternoon

Just wondered how often you spray water on your birds and the best food for Derbyan Parrots please

Good afternoon, I tend to spray mine once a week or twice in the hot weather, but everyone's different, don't spray in the evening as they must be dry before bedtime. As for food my Moustached Parakeets every day have of course fresh water, Tidymix parrot mix in a dish, another dish with various fruit & veg - sugar snap peas, carrot, apple, passion fruit - cut in half, (a favourite) corn on the cob, grapes, chillies, peppers, broccoli (not favoured) raspberries, blackberrries, strawberries, blueberries , cherries, piece of sweet orange , figs etc They have a selection from that list daily. About once a week millet spray, a few unsalted nuts - cashew, walnuts, almonds and so on. They also enjoy a piece of wholemeal seeded toast every morning when I make mine with a little local honey on.
Have you found any favourites your chap prefers yet.

Our Sun Conure eats various seed mixes for medium birds - and even some made for large birds. To be honest, we don't always buy the same brand because much of the actual food looks very similar. We've bought Kaytee Forti Diet, Kaytee Fiesta, Higgins Sunburst, Higgins Vitaseed, and one or two others.

(Our Budgies and Cockatiels eat a mix of smaller seeds.)

Depending on where you live, you might meet owners who buy pellet food. This is a huge debate among bird owners. Some insist that birds need pellets as the main part of their diet, and seeds should only be a treat. Others (like me) think that pellets are unnatural/unnecessary; the bird just needs plenty of vegetables and fruits along with their seeds. I live in the USA and a lot of owners push pellet diets here. It's one reason why I prefer these UK-based forums.

Our birds' favorite vegetables are broccoli, spinach, corn, peas, carrots, kale, squash, and bell peppers.
