Should My Parrot's Wings Be Clipped - By Greg Glendell

I would always be guided by an Avian vet when it comes to clipping wing feathers. I don't like seeing it but like everything there will be exceptions to the norm.

Thanks for sharing, I found the moulting info interesting. Won't be clipping my boy ☺️

One of mine has been done before we got him, I'm hoping it won't be long before they grow back but no sign yet although we've. Only had him since September.

Is it really widespread in America then?

I get the impression that in the UK it is rare
Clipping does seem much more the norm in the US than here. I lived in the States for a little while and outside of Zoos and Parks etc in the domestic setting it was usual. The usual argument being bird safety. I strongly disagree with the practice other than on clear advice from a Vet.

Strange that they seem to think it normal practice. I love watching Edwin fly around, he's got a good 35/40 ft from front to back of house and seeing his wings outstretched is a great sight.

Not sure about breeders but I know of a rescue that does it!!

Very, I won't bother asking where or the name, some things are better kept under wraps.

or sometimes better to name and shame lol

only thing i say is that i am glad i am not involved with the rescue anymore lol

dont get me  wrong-they do a lot of good jobs but a lot of not so good as well x

They think they do, I don't agree with the reasons personally, I think there are always better ways if keeping a bird safe, stopping it escaping etc. that mean you don't need to mutilate it, but that's my personal choice re it

A very interesting article on a very sensitive subject.

Some keepers attitude and practices in wing/feather clipping incense me. As far as I am concerned these people demonstrate ignorance and selfishness beyond belief and should be outlawed.

Other than veterinary recommended clipping for health issues and in the interest of the bird, where there is no other available course of cure, there is absolutely no need at all to interfere with a birds wings. It's bad enough that too many birds, particularly pets, have very restricted opportunity to fly anyway, amongst other numerous man imposed cruel restrictions.

Clearly people that clip to control a bird haven't got the inclination to provide proper care and therefore shouldn't have the poor bird in the first place.

If only people educated themselves first!
