Should I buy pet insurance

I was thinking of getting exotic direct life insurance for my 4 budgies. For each policy it’s £9.20 across 10 months per year. It covers £1500 per year (can insure up to three birds but £1500 is spread out)

Do you think it’s worth it or should I just put money aside per months for vet bills

Also my budgie sunny let me pet him the first time 🥰 however I noticed a black spot underneath his chin so unfortunately I had to grab him whilst he was sleepy, I was wondering if this would make him lose all his trust in me. I gave him treats once I inspected his beak (which was fine it just had vegetables stuck below)

I think this is a personal choice. I don’t have insurance for our 18 birds. I do have an account I put in to for all animal related things. I have found that if any of my birds require treatment, it does depend on the treatment as to whether it can be performed. As they are such small birds things like medication and simple procedures are ok but if you start thinking of operations this is much more problematic due to the size of the bird (obviously depending what the op is).

It depends, insurance doesn’t always cover everything you need to read terms and conditions carefully, friend of mine recently had emergency with one of her parrots and vet bill just for one visit with xray and blood test was around 600£ and it was covered by insurance completely so it came in handy, on other hand we had problem with Blu few years back that she unexpectedly plucked under her wings and that wasn’t covered by insurance because vet couldn’t find definitive reason why (got told that mostly is hormonal /behavioural related)

I’ve been putting money in a pet account with high interest this year because my dog insurance wanted £200 a month for my 2 dogs. So I stopped the insurance and started putting what I can afford in the bank. Since taking mums budgies on with mine I’ve just increased what I pay in.

When I think I’ve paid a fortune in the last 6 years to the insurance and only had to go for treatment maybe 3 or 4 times…. It’s really not been worth it and I could have saved a nice nest egg for them and the birds. Thankfully my fur babies are very healthy..

I know if something major happens it would be difficult and the credit card would get hammered but £200 a month is a joke…..🌻🌻🌻

The insurance company will also knock off a £30 ish fee before you start, the vets may charge you to do the necessary claim admin £20 ish, if you have a claim then that problem will be excluded for 12 months.

My husband and I were in a similar situation with our own health insurance. It's cheaper to set aside money for the appointments that we expect to have.
