Seed recommendations

Evening all,

Just looking for some recommendations on seed mixes for my guys.

I normally buy avian specific no peanut no sunflower but after having issues with peanuts getting in and now tonight finding a silica gel packet near the bottom of the bag I'm a bit put off! And I've chucked 1/4 of a bag away 😡

I went through a lot of mixes before settling on this one as I'm not easy to please 😂

I'm looking for a good quality fresh mix with no peanuts and sunflower seeds in. I do not use Johnston and Jeff as I've never found their mixes to be good or fresh.

So any recommendations? Or should I just give up and buy straits to mix my own 😂😂

ive heard a lot of mention of AS20 or AS30 from scarletts, but mines on pellets so i can't offer any more than that im afraid.

maybe take a look on scarletts for these, see what you think ?

Ah I should have specified. The avian specific is the AS brand.

I use mainly Johnson and Jeff lean and fit but not had a problem it is a no sunflower no nut mix, I have sprouted seeds from there mix and my flock love it, I will also say there was a time I would not touch Johnson and Jeff feed as it was often dusty, but I am happy with this mix

Only other product that comes to mind in Beaphar XtraVital have used it myself my flock quite enjoy it. Pretty sure it doesn't contain the sunflower and peanuts but please double check direct with them. Comes in boxes with sealed in silver airtight bag with feeder scoop also available in larger bags there is a variety in the range for other bird species.

You may also wish to contact northern parrots they had their own brand too

Unfortunately bad experiences stay with you and after all the issues I've had with that brand in the past I wouldn't touch them again.

Ooh I didn't know they had their own! I'll add this one to the list aswell :)

I've used beaphar food in the past and found that to be good, no idea why i didn't think of them 😓

AS30 from Scarletts for our Jardine and Eclectus. We get the 15KG sack and I've never found a silica gel sachet in there. It takes our two a while to get through that amount, but we store it properly and it always smells good to the bottom of the sack. Day to day we serve it from a 5 litre tub with an air tight lid, then top up the tub when empty.

That's the mix I currently use unfortunately.

But it does contain peanuts which is what capthowdy wanted to avoid
Edited to add also contains sunflower the other item she wished to avoid

I use Tidy Mix too right now - but I pick out all the fruit, peanuts, other nuts, garlic sticks and chilies. I have yet to find a seed mix that I truly like. I used to use AS30 and before that Johnston & Jeff but wasn't really happy with either. I am happier with Tidy Mix even though it has sunflowers... it has a lot less than it used to many years ago. Thanks for the Beaphar XtraVital recommendation @DizzyBlue - going to get some of that and try it out next!
