Said Goodbye

Said goodbye to my little girl today, Jill.
the vet said she probably had liver failure. i asked why and she said kaks are prone to it with a seed diet. She had AS30 and lots of fruit and veg but vet said a complete pellet diet like harrisons was better as it gave everything she needed. I cant bear the thought that i might have caused her to be ill by feeding the wrong food. i feel so helpless, i only wanted the best i could for my burdies.
She is home with me. im going to bury her in the special place i made for my son.
Jack is wandering looking for her.
Bugger this im lost

I do not think it was diet related Carol. Kaks do not normally live a long life owing to the active life and fast heart beat I am so sorry for your loss and I know you have given her a happy life. Heart failure is the most common cause of death of these birds I have lost three that have been the heart that had caused it.

:emoji_cry: Hugs Carol:emoji_bouquet:

Please do not blame yourself at all.
The speech must be taught at Vet school...the amount of fat in Harrison’s is not going to be any less than Jill and Jack have in their seed mix, and I know that you have always given a balance of fruit and veggies, no good the Vet saying “probably” if they don’t really know, all they’ve succeeded in doing is causing you more upset. Michael has posted from his experience and that is more likely the issue, so please don’t be beating yourself up.

Fly free dear little Jill xxxx

Hi sweetheart I am so very sorry, from someone who still feels loss very much, sending you feathered hugs. Please put those shoulda, coulda, woulda thoughts to the very back of your mind. Concentrate on your remaining flock and sending dear Jill on her way to Rainbow Bridge with love and gratitude for a life shared together. She will still be with in your heart and in your memories. God bless little Jill and fly forever free sweetie. Say hello to my gorgeous boy Plum for me will you xx

Sorry you lost a lil friend. Hope you feel better soon. As others have said dont beat yourself up x

So sorry for your loss
Fly free sweetie.
As for what your vet said about you causing this .... snot and nonsense! What the heck does she think they eat in the wild??? Pellets from the harrison tree??? DOH!! Some people!!! And without a full post mortem she is guessing as to cause of death. So don't you go fretting yourself over there hunni this was not your fault. They are not a long lived species due to high metabolic rate hence wishing to have 16 eggs in a brood as often as is possible.

We sure do sweetheart. Just one little point and that is about Jack, were they a bonded pair? It sometimes helps a pet to see the departed, so I have read, they understand then. If you think about it, Jill just has disappeared to him? What are your thoughts?

So sorry to hear this, it's hard to see the remaining bird look for their friend, heart breaking, as if it isn't hard enough.

Try not to beat yourself up, vets shouldn't play guessing games, if they don't know why they shouldn't guess something then say it's your fault for not feeding pellets.

Which vet was it? (If you don't mind me asking) was it one at Robson and Prescott?

no it wasnt Robson Heather. she didnt say outright that it was my fault but implied that i had made a bad choice in seed. i made a choice for seed i believed it was the right one.
they wernt a bonded pair but i bought them together from a breeder who said they were both girls from the same clutch. turned out they were girl and boy. they had their own cage beside each other so they really were together all the time. I had to go to work afterwards so my husband brought her home. she was wrapped up in a cloth. my husband put the travel cage on the floor next to jacks cage and opened his door. jack sat in his door for a while looking down then flew down to the floor. he walked around the cage looking in then held onto the side of the cage where she was lying. eventually he went back into his own cage. dont know if he understands. he is sitting now near the bottom of his cage just very quiet. not a place where he usually sits. he has never been hand tame, i dont know how to comfort him.

Is he sitting in the place nearest to the travel cage? Give him time, can you leave her there for now?

Awwwww, I'm so sorry Carol. xxx Sounds like you gave her an excellent diet. I too would not choose to feed a Kak pellets. I think that vets like human doctors are not dietitians.
