Safe Cookware

Hi all, this is my first post I've seen some discussions about this but wanted to ask the question out right. Ptfe AND pfoa cookware is hard to find, In the UK anyway. I've seen some that's just pfoa. Which is the one we need to look for, isn't one sometimes present without the other one? Or do we need to look for cookware that is always free of both?
Thanks
Louise, with Ronnie and misty the cockatiels

Hi Louise and :welcome: to the forum...great advice there from Stinkie.

It's not easy to follow the markings as some manufacturers don't make it very clear....but you'll find that something that is only labelled as PFOA free...will have PTFE in the coatings somewhere....so always check that it states both PTFE and PFOA free.... I've had to return items that I have bought thinking they are PTFE free, as when I have googled about and looked up the brand name of the coating I've found buried in technical data that the coating has got PTFE in it.

Ok so if it just says pfoa free that's no good?
Also, through all of my searching I've never come across that website it looks great! Been looking for trays. We have a small set of vita Verde Greenpan from wayfair but now we need a lot more stuff and I just can't find ptfe and pfoa free. Do you mind me asking are you a lot of people on here from the UK?

Yes the forum Is privately owned and hosted here in the U.K. The majority of members are in the U.K...but we do have members across Europe, North and South America, South Africa and Australia...and probably others that I can't recall.
We're a friendly bunch and there's loads of info here, if there's anything you're not sure of just ask :)

Yes! @TomsMum recommended it to me and my stuff came promptly and well packaged, think over a year ago and it still looks new after seeing a lot of action :emoji_bread::emoji_cake::emoji_cookie:

I'll have a proper look on the website thank you very much. The birds will be in a totally different room, on a totally different floor, but still I'm not risking anything. Ooh I did have another question that you may be able to help with.. We're temporarily (a year or 2) moving into a family members house, she has a log burning fire in the living room. Again, different room and different floor. The birds won't be anywhere near it so the physical element of birds around a fire isn't the worry, it's the fumes, if any? It's fitted properly and goes directly up the chimney. It's got the door on it so It's not open, you only open it to put the wood in. It's only been in a year so it's quite new. She just burns wood. ?

Hi, welcome from me!

I have an induction hob and found pans easy to find. We have some stainless steel ones bought from local supermarket and Ikea. We also have a tefal actifry and I did write to Tefal who said that although the product was Ptfe free, they would not recommend cooking near birds anyway.

Carbon Monoxide is dangerous from any source be it a fire or from gas appliances.. so great that you have them

If they aren't in the new place I'll get them no problem. I know it can be from the gas cooker, just didn't know if a fire gives off anything else that might be dangerous. Like does it depend on the kind of wood that is burned etc

Hi welcome from me and my flock.
Yes we have an enclosed wood burner for 20 years now, and all okay. We have the chimney swept regularly and the burner maintained so I would not think there would be any problem. Some woods do give off different smells, but if I am worried then doors & windows are opened no matter what the weather and that wood is not burnt again. In fact it is a multi fuel burner so we can also burn suitable but safe coals /anthracite etc on it too.
Always best to have a monitor though.

Brilliant, I was looking for baking/roasting trays myself.

I've just sent an enquiry off to ProCook about their ceramic pans - they state they're PFOA-free but nothing about PTFE. I'll post when I hear back.

Thanks that would be really helpful. Where have you seen 'pro cook' items for sale? Not on that Harts of spur website is it? Because they all say ptfe and pfoa free
