I got my first parrot about a week and a half ago and I am having a hard time trying to get the parrot to be more open to me does anyone of any tips for me.

Very short time to expect your bird to trust you and become friends.
Think of it from the birds view point new home, new routine, new sounds, new cage and layout and a new predator watching. Nature designed you as a predator eyes to the front, bird is prey species eyes to the side. You have to wait a while and prove your not going to try and eat your new friend :aplastao: I know you won't you know you won't but birdie doesn't know you just want to be friends.

Let's tag Roz she'll get you going on the right path to forging a friendship.
Remember the old saying Rome was not built in a day..... Ok so they didn't say how many days and some birds catch on and figure things out quicker, some birds remember if they got roughly handled and you need to prove your gentle and learn to speak parrot language like the rest of us did. You will get there in the end time, love and patience.

Hello and welcome, they are very pretty, they are eastern rosella's. with a red and yellow mutation you will need to be patient its still early days. they are not birds that like to be touched but can become quite friendly, but not close you may get it to land on you or not just fly away when you are near will love to see a photo of your bird.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Patience is the key - Dora our Senegal took about 2 -3 months to be happy sitting on/with me (even though she was fine with my husband). Quiet and gentle chatting to her, having her on the table while I "played" with and made parrot toys (no sand her curiosity got the better of her.

Mango is very pretty! 🥰 As everyone has said, you’ll have to give him time to get to know and trust you.

What food does he like? Does he like millet spray? You could clip it to the cage bars and see if he nibbles at it. If he he likes it, you could then see if he would nibble the end if you poked a length through the cage bars with you still holding it. You don’t want to frighten him so go very slowly.

If you associate yourself with only good experiences for Mango like doing everything you can to keep his body language relaxed (by moving slowly and smoothly around him, and telling him gently about what you are doing) and then pairing yourself with food he likes, you will gradually earn his trust.

I think of it in these steps
1. Prove your not a threat(for this I like to work on something quietly really close to them without them being the center of focus)
2. Prove your gentle enough to hang around(plenty of seed, so they know your hands are safe)
3.prove your interesting(give bathes, training, and fun activities)
4.prove you can be a great fun friend( being there constantly and gain a relationship)
