Thought I would share some pictures from Bob the other day he went after an elusive Red Flanked Blue Tail and where others hadn't managed to get a good view of it he did!

He got the Belted Kingfisher a few weeks ago as well
Seems to spend his time charging up and down the country with camera in hand these days but have to say his pictures are flipping marvellous!

Where was the blue tail? I’m on ‘rare bird alert’ and i didn’t see that, mustn’t have been in the northwest. He did well to get some fantastic photos, that would be a ‘lifer’ for me.

@caza66 its on there apparently a lot of people heading that way today in hope of getting a glimpse of it.
Think Bb has gone for the Hawfinches again today says he wants better pictures ... his flipping pictures were great last time around ... think he's turning into a perfectionist lol

Wonderful photos, never heard of one of those look very much like a Robin. Are they native to UK?

They are a migrant that usually pass through but rarely stop for more than a day or two usually seen autumn time
This one seems to have decided to over winter, seems to be foraging well and chases off any competition like the long tailed tits.

@caza66 Am surprised Bob isn't trying to locate the Dusky Warbler over near York its been heard a few times and seen once we met up near there the other week he wanted the smews that were there the other week but they weren't seen sad as I am I was more interested by the hybrid greylag canada goose no wonder Bob just shakes his head at me in despair :risas3: but I did get a coupe crossed off my year list of the more common ones like a lovely stone chat, the golden eyes were stunning as well and the marsh harrier dipping in hunting was another ticked. :)

Whoppers came through in droves back end of last year even during December now can't locate one of the blinking things!!
I don't live too far from Spurn Point and that often gets a few wild weird and wonderful visitors @caza66

I was brought up around here. It's really odd though as I would rather go spotting in wooded areas which we don't really have around here, there are heaps of wading birds around here it's nothing to see flocks of 3000 plus pink footed geese coming in on migration and hundreds of curlew feeding together on the harvested fields and I would still trade it all to go watch a green woodpecker or a little owl foraging :risas3: so not normal!

@Zooamazons
Andrew I know your not far from Filey apparently there is a Richards Pipit there at the Rocket Pool Field as well as 2 Grey Pharalope
In case your feeling like a bit of bird photography :)

@caza66

Maybe I should keep an eye on some bird sightings websites, although not being entirely in the modern world the only thing I have for the internet is my laptop so I'm not connected for most of the day.

You could do what I do and just have a scoot around on a night time to see what's been sighted where and if its close enough if I am going birding the next day just like I have a nosy at the met office to see what weather systems may or not be coming through. If there's nothing a little different then I go to my usual haunts. Bob's birdie crackers for the wild ones these days and heads out all over the place for rare ones I know he has updates from Rare Bird Alert but that's not my thing.
@Zooamazons

That sounds like a good policy. Near to home things are it for me really as they need to be within reasonable cycling distance or relatively short public transport excursions.
