Quieter

She has been more tired from about 3 onwards but has eaten plenty. If read that lactulose increases their appetite. I was hoping to fly her this afternoon but she seemed too tired. I've got plenty of milk thistle seeds into her today though. Just wish I could see her drink something. From others who have had birds with fatty liver disease, is it normal to see some good parts of the day and then some very tired parts?

Its normal in general behaviour for birds to have active and quiet times my lot have an afternoon siesta every day
Your correct in the assumption about fresh fruit and veggies giving more fluid than you think am sure there will be a little sip or two of water at some point but not as much as when birds get dried food and pellets all the time.

Baytril is a broad spectrum antibiotic and its new to her system as is the lactulose the sleepiness was there before these were.

Step away from Google the only advice your taking is the one your vet gives you complete the course. If I googled what ailments I have it would come back as some strange thing like bubonic plague with purple polka dots and imminent dropping off of both legs and a wart the size of a melon on the tip of my nose appearing :CompProbs:

Try not to stress, the trip to the vet and examination alone will tire her out, you are looking after her well and keeping an eye on her, do try to stop worrying.

We had a few good days. I was out seeing family in the mornings and when I got back in the afternoon she was very bright and energetic. I've been home all day today and she has been far more lethargic again. I suppose trying to sort a liver is a good days, bad days type of illness

Spoke to vet this morning. We are to keep going with the laculose and milk thistle but the antibiotics stop tomorrow. He will redo bloods in about a month's. He confirmed that fatty liver does mean that birds sleep more. Keep doing what we are doing really

I think your all doing an awesome job. @gazzington it's not easy mentally on us humans but it has positive effects on our feathered companions all eyes on the goal
Thanks 😃. It is mentally tough, as I just want to get her better. There are good noisy and lively parts in the day but she still sleeps a fair bit. Equally I know it's not a problem you fix in a couple of weeks. Last day of antibiotics today

My first really bad experience of liver disease was with Alfie my blue front emergency vets drove to the other side of the country in the very early hours of the morning from the east coast to the west coast with him fitting in the passenger seat... I nearly pooped myself! Surprised I didn't loose my driving licence in the journey I was that panicked he was detoxing but far too quickly. I wasn't just physically exhausted but mentally wiped out
Ain't no shame in finding things tough and wanting the best for them

It's certainly very tough going. She seems bright at times but large chunks of the day she sleeps. Straight after the meds she seems more tired. Weirdly when I used to give her milk thistle seeds she would get sleepy. I'm putting the milk thistle in the syringe with the lactulose now
