Hello :)

Thought I'd register while I am browsing and may make a thread in the future with some specific questions regarding finding a breeder, once the time is right.

I shall keep this brief as we are birdless so it shall be lacking any meaningful content :)

We are contemplating bird ownership, our experience is limited but I have had an African grey in the family before.
Sadly he passed away not long after his owner did, but he was a wonderful and lively chap.

I've contemplated getting a Hahn's macaw for some years already, but decided against a few years ago as the timing was not right (we had a very young daughter).
Now things have settled down and our daughter is older enough to understand bird behaviour, and boundaries we are contemplating it again.

I am pretty settled on the breed having met a couple recently, they are rather cheeky and I can see them being a challenging first bird for sure. The best interaction I had was actually getting told off by one of them, I ignored a warning nip and then got a what I assume was the full effect of his beak. It hurt a fair bit but having survived it has oddly given me confidence in knowing what they're capable of.

Welcome to the forum
Remember though not all of the bird ownership side is pink and fluffy good stuff there are also bites wrecked furniture pooped on things terrorised friends and family and its a way of life one of my birds is now 44 years old so a long commitment ... no teflon, no air freshener, no lots of stuff, find an avian vet, who looks after the bird if you go on holiday. All the mind bending bits that people fail to mention. We'll help you best we can though its not meant to put you off just widen your vision and not all bird like their owners we choose them not them us so no guarantee on the 24/7 good stuff.

Hi and welcome. We were going to get a Hahns macaw about 12 years ago, but when we went to visit the breeder, she didn't have any clutches that season. We met a baby blue and gold macaw instead and he now owns us, along with his later adopted older sister. Absolutely love them to bits but not going to lie......we sometimes wish we'd have gone with smaller birds!
