Protecting exposed woodwork

Hi all. I have bought yet another new shed to attach to Clayton and Grumpy's aviary (we moved house recently). It's of excellent quality but the internal beams are exposed. Does anyone have any tips for how to protect them from busy beaks? I was wondering about strips of sheet metal, or weldmesh. Does anyone have any bright ideas? In the past I've used large internal cages within the shed, but I'm not doing that this time.

i could just hang veg from them, that would keep BERT away :BangHead:

Sorry not helpful at all.

Is their anyway you could kind of line the place with an aviary/Rosemead panels or such ? kind of like an indoor open aviary to protect the woodwork ?

what size are the beams ?

Something like Moncaster aviary panels or have a look at Rosemead aviary panels then you can securely hook those over the areas then will be able to remove for cleaning as needed.

Could just buy a roll of wire mesh from B&Q and wire up the inside so its literally stacked to the wood.
Bu defo like Mikes thought as the sheet metal means you can wipe it clean easily as well

Thanks all - I think I'll go with sheet metal.

Hahaa yes, I could attach some soaked pulses too!

Anyway, thanks everybody. I'll go for sheet metal if I can get my hands on some. I only need to protect the areas near the perches.

if you go sheet metal, i assume you will need ally or stainless or it will rust ?

not sure how much you have but would that be expensive way ?

Yes I'll need stainless or ally. I'll see what I can get my hands on - otherwise I'll just staple half inch weldmesh on to the exposed areas. Just finishing the shed off in the next few days- including sliding entrance hatch and double door.

im used corrugated plastic for my guinee pigs as it was easy to fold and fix, really easy to clean and cheap to replace (if needed)

the same sort of stuff for sale signs are made from.

Fabulous. I'll try that. One sheet will easily meet my needs - and provide left overs for replacements. I doubt the birds will chew it much as they have many branches and other more appealing items to destroy.

maybe this

or this for better sizes

I like the coloured stuff - could make the interior more jolly. I'll get some this weekend and report back on progress. Thanks again Scott199 for saving me a lot of hassle.

Will see what I can pick up at Wickes this weekend. Will certainly use metal in the areas that can easily be nibbled from the perches.

To update you guys on this, I did a bit of an about turn. As it happens there was a hidden stock of 1.5 inch square untreated timber in the back of the garage so I have simply screwed lengths of this to the inner beams of the shed that are in reach of the birds. I've also battened 1/4 inch square mesh to some of the exposed inner walls. I've lined the window frames with hazel branches, which harden quickly and don't get chewed much by my greys.
The birds are now installed in their new home and to my surprise entered the shed as soon as the hatch was opened.
