hi i went to check on my tiels and i noticed 1 of my conures tapping its beak as i left the shed on the bars so i went back and realised its v fluffed up 9n the food bowl and as i went to apprach it usualy flies off and it didnt i was able to put my hand in and pick it up even tho it is a wild bird didnt fight back does grab with both legs it is part of a breeding pair v confused please help????

Hi sorry that your Conure is not itself. It would be sensible to go see your Avian Vet at the soonest opportunity. Have you put the bird in an isolation cage , away from the rest of your flock? Make it comfortable and ensure it has food and water and is kept warm. You will also be able to observe it easier also which will make it easier to give info and answer your vets questions.

Let us know how you get on.

we dont have an avain vet we have normal vet and when it comes to birds they are useless

County not country! Which large town do you live near....maybe we can help locate the nearest Avian specialist Vet @abu

As plumsmum said, can you put him in a smaller cage so that you can bring him inside and keep him warm? Warmth is essential for a sick bird. And make sure he has easy access to water and food. Birds go downhill very quickly - I know to my cost having just lost a budgie. If you tell us whereabouts in the UK you are, we might be able to find an avian vet nearish to you. Sometimes you have to travel to get to one. You could put probiotics/prebiotics in his water if he will drink it. If he has a breathing problem you could nebulize with F10 depending on whether you have a nebulizer. He may need antibiotics but they would have to be dispensed by a vet.

I am just wondering if it is female and about to lay or even egg bound. this time of year is a lot of conures breeding time. what area do you live in? keeping your bird is a must it was very cold last night and if it could not find warm shelter this could also cause it to be so lethargic

im in west yorkshire they are kept indoors in a wooden shed in breeding cages if thats any good ??

Have you been able to make sure that they have been OK? We have had some cold temperatures/winds lately. Is there any insulation? Do you ensure that they are kept well cleaned out, cleaned and disinfected food and water dishes and any spoiled and old food is removed and water changed often. Poor hygiene practises will result in poorly birds as I am sure you will know? What do you feed btw?
