Poorly Amazon Parrot

Ensure that you towel her with confidence but calmly. Make sure you reassure her whilst you have her in it. No bird relishes being towelled but it ends up mostly not so bad. I have found that when my birds are poorly, as a consequenbce of you caring for them they get to trust you and you develop a stronger bond. I wonder if she would take some Harrison's Mash, a powder form (made wet) of their product? Most vet practises have Harrisons products.

Search Sock Buddy hun? :)

Towel training, like I do with a with syringe I play games with my birds using towels, this may be pulling them along the floor when they are on them. playing games like peekaboo or just hiding treats in the towel, ok I do not use the Yellow towel when playing, that one I only use if I have too, I can towel most of my flock with out problem with normal towels but if they show disapproval then I will use the yellow towel. there are two things my flock do not like and that's the yellow towel and my bird net, that I have only used a few times since keeping birds

@Eddie thank you for the update that is good news, I hope she continues to recover and eat well. Does the vet want to see her again.

Have to take her back again next week.. this morning she didn’t want many cuddles.. think she is returning to the old Eddie which is a good that she is getting better and sad that it means she won’t want/need me anymore in her own little way!

Quick update on Eddie! What a difference a week makes! Once the collar was taken off Eddie really started to improve.. it was nerve wracking with the nibbling of her stitches for the first 4/5 days but now you can hardly see anything there at all! She is now eating all her food, although still a little tired and not moving around as much as normal or being as noisy.. I’m sure this will come with time considering she has been poorly for such a long time and not really eaten.
A huge thanks to everyone who has offered advice and help when I have been in such a state, you have truly been amazing 💕

Its great to hear, this must of been a very worrying time, I was concerned until the first week was over as I know that shock of the operation can cause death, Once the week was over I knew it would be a slow but sure recovery and I was not worrying about her. She is on target in her healing process, and it will not be long before Eddie will be back to her normal self the good thing about all this is that you found out He was a she.

The reason I did not say is because I did not want you to worry more than what you was already, operations to the mouth or within the throat can bring on shock (normally within the first four days), there is no way of stopping the shock if it happened so I felt it pointless in telling you about it. have you completed all the meds? if you have any left I think it will be better to use it until it is finished although you have completed the full course or time period. especially the antibiotics. the pain killer medication or anti inflation medication can be stopped but keep it bye just incase your bird shows signs of discomfort by chewing at the area of the operation or has a backwards turn in eating over the next two weeks. Of course if your bird starts showing signs of backward progression, you will need to get her checked by an avian vet.

I am off to the vets again tomorrow morning for another check up. I have put the residual medication into a grape and as it’s such a small amount it seems to have gone down well. I am nearly all out although I still have some baytril from the 1st vet. I’ll see what he thinks tomorrow. The scar has healed really well and although she does preen the area it seems as though she is being very gentle with it. I really hope I can give her a shower soon as think it will help with the new feathers coming through.

If the baytrill was from the vets that did the operation that is nearly gone that should be the end of her complete anti virus needs.

Yay! Eddie has been signed off! No more medication required and putting the weight back on nicely! So incredibly relieved! Has been a terribly emotional time but feel we have come out of it closer than ever and now more well informed than ever
Fantastic news, so happy for you both

Brilliant news! She looks amazing, and it's so great to see that pic of you both together. Well done to both of you for fighting through it all. Wishing Eddie a continued speedy recovery, and wishing you some relaxation time with your little girl! You've earned it! xx

After everything Ed has been through I think it may not have been the end... her flight feathers have come out and they are not symmetrical, she is unable to fly and lands pretty badly on the few occasions she has tried. Today I found this ...4C461B91-D37C-4CDE-9273-AE55052B01BF.jpeg
