My yellow kakariki Cheddar has been straining for about 5 days now like he's trying to lay an egg or push something out and he looks like he's in pain while this happens, he does this about 5 times a day and for 4mins at a time. Afterwards he carries on running around and eating and drinking as per normal. Been to the vet and she confirmed from a physical exam and X-rays that there's no egg but his bowel is swollen and waiting on blood tests now. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be??? I'm struggling to watch him have his little episodes and not be able to do anything about it! He's been on antibiotics for 3 days now with no effect?? The picture is the position hes in when he has his episodes.Screenshot_20210616-131656_Video Player.jpg

He may have a problem digesting food, can you send a picture of his poo, and tell us about his diet. A bad diet in a bird usually is the root cause of all bird sicknesses that deal with the stomach. Hope he gets well soon 😞

We are not vets
Follow your vets advice do not change diet at this stage it's far to dangerous
Your birds had bloods and xray done hopefully your seeing an avian vet if not then ask your vet if they would consider consulting one but firstly explain to your vet your worries and distress that things are not changing and your bird looks in pain.
Hopefully the list on this website is up to date https://www.pwsa.org.au/Avian-Veterinarians
Stay strong you can do this

Thank you both, yes it is an avian vet and she asked about his diet she said its balanced, and his poops are normal too she took a sample cause we were there for a while. Expecting a call back any minute with the results of the blood tests and will let her know my concerns. Thanks! Hope for the best I guess 😬

please let us know the results, can you post a frontal view of your Cheddar, i just want to confirm you have a male, its just female kakariki's will often sit like this when attracting for a mate, antibiotics can take around five days before they start showing they are helping
