As the title . Does or has anyone potty trained their feathered friends when out of the cage ?? Feels like I’m asking a stupid question but stranger things have happened ! :nut:

No question is a stupid one. I believe some folk have done but to be honest I am unsure whether its good for the parrot.
Glossop one of my Senegals seems to wait until he comes out of a morning flies to the stick stand on the window ledge and does his morning poo (I have layers of newspaper there!) it's his choice to do that though.

I trained one bird Bobbie, he only would go on paper or earth, if I took him out with me on a train, bus or even in the car along with just walking in town with him on my shoulder, he would make himself hold onto his poop and on more than one occasion it was making him ill and lethargic. I promised I will never train another bird to just go where I wanted him to go.

We did start to potty train Gary when we first got him. If he was upstairs with us he would ask to be carried to the toilet. Downstairs he would only go either in his cage or from one of his java trees. However, we also realised the down side to it, if he started to hold it in it may cause issues, so we just stopped. We will ask if they "want a poopy" when we first uncover them in the morning, and they both generally oblige  . Other than that they have picked their own favourite spots so we've adapted to them really. We've even installed a poo-shelf (yes really), above the radiator in the bird room as Gary loves to do one off a specific side of the cage, right into the middle of a double radiator where we can't clean it fully, and reheated parrot poo does NOT an air freshener make!

We've been parrot trained - Dora will not poo in her sleeping cage but always wants to go up to the kitchen cage. She is encouraged to use her perches or cages, but will often poo wherever she is and we just clean up immediately. If she is sitting on my shoulder or knee I know when she wants to go as she fidgets and has a specific squeak, so I take her to the nearest perch or cage, works most of the time but there will always be accidents.

I have a Denham jacket that I wear when going out with my birds, if any one had seen the two Ronnie's sketch of the pigeon fancier and noticed the poop on the back of Ronnie Barkers jacket, mine normally ends up a lot more covered. I always take a tissue or baby wipe with me,

None of ours are potty trained, we either have a poop tray underneath their out of cage perches or I've place some off cut of lino on the floor below their cages. Vinegar is good at removing bird poop from tilled and lino flooring as well as poop off is good for removing bird poop from carpet and fabric.

This is a link to poop off, but you might be able to find it cheaper if you do an internet search

Things I have trained my lot are to not fear the travel cage as I need to load them in and out twice a day so they can go into the aviary, it’s also good when I need to take them to the vets as they jump right in :)

A recall is fun if you can just call a bird to come. It could also be useful in a bad situation if you know what I mean.
