Palm Oil

Coconut oil KTC available at Sainsburys for £2.45 a tub as well as many other places.

But unfortunately not the same nutritionally as what's in the palm oil …. coconut doesn't have the things like the vitamins E and K in high quantity in it and does have others instead that are missing in the palm oil … so coconut isn't really a substitute for palm.
Just looked up Planet Organic brilliant, if you live in London. Do not seem to do deliveries, shame.

Depending on where you live in the UK, it is available at African or Asian food stores. I used to live in Ghana and palm oil is used widely in cooking so it’s available here in those kind of shops at reasonable prices

Thanks for the thread reminder @PollyPee I did mention available at Asian shops earlier in the thread. None of my birds will touch the stuff act like I am trying to poison them

I don't know the exact reasons behind this, I have read this a couple of times in the last year, and Tony Silva also mentioned this in one of his aviculture talks very recently. I wonder if it possible has something to with the fat content, or type of fat.

It does seem that oils go in and out of fashion, first palm oil, then coconut oil, now hemp oil. I personally feel that oils are more beneficial in there natural state, i.e in the seeds nuts and fruits that we feed, as surely this is in a better natural form than extraction, and probably a higher amount of fats leftover in the final processed product.

Dora has palm nuts and we add organic hemp seeds to our breakfast which she snaffles.
Dora has palm nuts and snaffles the organic hemp seed we add to our muesli.

I have noticed that a few are now not recommending palm oil in parrots diets apart from African grays.
@DizzyBlue I originally stated this back in December last year and didn't know the answer to the reason not feeding plam oil to species other than African Grey parrots. I sent a message to Tony Silva (the origin of this information) via YouTube, but didn't get an answer. He has now made a video on the subject about the fatty chain in plam oil.

I try to avoid everything containing palm oil or palm products. It is very difficult - most biscuits these days contain palm oil :-(
"Sustainable palm oil" is just the palm industry's way of trying to make it acceptable to consumers. We have to 'vote with our feet' - please avoid palm oil, palm nuts and palm products. There are other things we can feed our parrots and ourselves.
