Nik

Wasn't she nice at the vet, like it was a 80 years old tamed Bird! I'm proud of her... :) The vet said that the only think she sees as a bit not right is that she is a bit chunky ( she said cause of her diet mainly in fat grains), and perhap she needs a bit more vitamins, calcium etc., so we got them She prescribed. She said start introducing her to pallets, what She suggested is "Harrison's", so we'll start that!
About the tests i asked, She said there isn't a symptom that requires us to do that as its not very healthy as well to put the bird in anaesthetic to do so...
She mentioned about UV light as in here they don't get as much light as they would obvy in Australia wow! But yeah i will research that with the lamp, and pretty much all good... ;)

Glad she got on well which vet did you end up going to?

Trinity Vet near Maidstone hospital! Very nice doctors, there were few other parrots there waiting to be seen... ;)

It seems every AV recommends Harrisons but it's fine if Rosie will eat them. Did you get told her weight Nik?

I purchased this light for Plum https://www.scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk/avian-sun-lamp-starter-kit

From my experience with Plum I would have wanted the blood test done. Working on the principle that if I had done them on Plum before he became poorly I could have perhaps changed a lot of things much sooner and changed history. It never seemed to affect him, the only thing was he perhaps was a little sick if he had eaten in the two hours before.

My opinion for what it’s worth..just changing to Harrison’s is not going to change much if the bird is used to over eating. Yes Harrison’s in theory is balanced, but I would personally try to get more vegetables and sprouted seeds and pulses Into to the diet...remember Harrison’s is an all round formula not a breed specific formula, Amazons and Cockatoos need a lower fat content diet than Greys, Macaws and Conures. veg in higher ratio to fruit because of the sugar/carb content.
I agree with Plumsmum that a blood test would have shown up any specific deficiencies and or issues, and I would consider the low risk of anaesthetic worth it.
But there we are ...we all see these things differently, and that’s why I prefer to use a specialist Avian Vet with an specific avian qualification...we need more of ‘em.
Great Western Exotics have taken on a new ECZM (avian)resident... so that’s good news.

Nik it is really great that Rosie coped well with her vet trip, she is a great girl and I thought she would though!

Something you may not know is that female Rose Breasted Cockatoos can be more prone to health problems because of their hormones. This is one reason why my vet kept calling Plum 'she' until we had the DNA test to confirm he was in fact was my boy! Because of this it looked liked Plum had been handed a bum deal of cards genetically, along with poor or ignorant ownership. Vets work on more of a reactive work method rather than a proactive one, if all the birds were well then ....... I am concerned about additional vitamins with pellets.

A blood test at the beginning of your life together gives some guidance and a marker for later on.

Agree with everything @TomsMum has said.

If i have to be honest, I didn't expect, she had to be under anaesthetic for a blood sample! Whatsoever I'm listening all you guys say and I try to learn more/better from your information and advises! Thank you!

Did she had a simple (bad) diet in the past 11 years, she did! I was aware of that by the advises I got from the breeder (don't get me wrong, lovely fellow, who did care, I guess in his own way), but she has been breeding sucsessfuly which needs lots of vitamins, energy and health, thats why she needs to Cath up on some stuff like vitamins and ease on some others like food for the worth of it. By introdusing the pallets as a choice of food not replacemant of everything, cause you see, it has it all in the bag, not at all! My plan and I spoke to the vet, is that this gives her opportunity to eat healthier in sence of having no choice to pick only the seeds she is used to (high fat etc.) or likes, as they will still apear in her diet in her weekly food requirements or as a treats etc... She eats veggies and fruits and thats something I introduced her to and she seems to be getting it, as I am monitoring every bit of everything really! She still got natural instincts after all... Changes happen slow and requires a lot of patience, so i cant rush into everything stra8 away...

Only if i could!

About the blood test, yes i was so keen on it, but then i was told certain things, that made me wonder, what step should I take next. I have expirience with a lot of different animals, obvy they are all diferent, but a lot of problems have as well indication in rather behavior or a physical issue, she ain't got any, she eats and drinks, she is active and interactive, she plays around and she rests when she needs, I'm not underestimating the whole idea of the blood test and I'm not going for: - look she is happy, that means she is healthy!, but for now will go slowly and carefully. The test would tell me exactly what would be the best solution, but it is what it is, for now, so I've taken a path that the vet suggested cause it happened to be what i was thinking too, bad or good, but that's why i got all of you guys with so many ideas and reasons and opinions to build a healthy life for her!
Thanks for the UV light link! And i hope im not misunderstood, we are all thinking about our birds and all animals health realy, and I'm berry appreciative of your help guys! I'll get there ;)

A lot of times with birds there is very little indications that things are not as they should be and by the time you notice it he or she has been unwell for a period of time anyway. I watched Plum like a hawk, even on the day he passed I knew something was a little off, I was on guard, needing more info. His behaviour was different but he still ate his tea though, appearing normal. My point is that if your AV is good then they will be fine, the tests give precious advance information as to how things are and a report that tells you what the levels should be. Too high or too low, as I said before without this it is all guess work. :)

I would not hesitate to have them done if I can accept another in time.
