Hi, I'm Rachel from West Yorkshire and I have just got my first Kakarikis - I have two Buttercups (Jack and Daisy) they're 5 months old and just in the process of getting to know them!! They are such characters and really cheeky I can't wait for them to come out and have a fly around the house - We're just a little afraid of letting them out just yet as we may not get them back in :budgie::)

Any advice or tips will be greatly welcomed

Thank you for accepting me Parrot Club !!

Hi and welcome :)
Time to let them out is when you have plenty of time to sit and wait, so no impending visitors, no appointments to get too food in the cage only means then they wish to eat that's where it is and that's where they will associate eating.
You need to make sure the house is parrot proof safety wise first. Little objects that can be knocked down and scare a birdie or indeed get smashed need to be put somewhere safe, check out your plants in case you have any that are not suitable if nibbled on some can be poisonous, ensure any other pets are safely out of the way (including fish tanks covered properly in case of unexpected crash landings!), mirrors need to be addressed as birds see the "other room" in the mirror and try to go there, windows have the same nasty as mirrors, no access to things like candles, air fresheners, closed windows, no access to nasties in the kitchen etc etc … huge list if your a first time owner. :)
A day or two in the cage to let them get acquainted with new noises there's a lot to learn in a new home from new routines, new human slaves, when they get up and when they go to bed, different foods, different cage layout et etc …. lots to take in for new feathered friends.
If you have a nosy in the training folder there's lots to learn in there and Roz is brilliant at explaining stuff etc.

Here they are [emoji178]

Hi and welcome, what beautiful little kaks. I l love their names too.
What dish do you have on the floor. It looks ideal for my lovebirds. They love to pick up their bath, fresh food dishes everywhere and the dishes have lids on too lol.

They are just cheap dishes from a bargain shop .... didn't want to splash out until I knew what they'd be happy with ... but they're happy to scratch around in these but they're quite light so could still be picked up I guess

Hi, they are gorgeous. same colouring as the pair I had a while ago. its good that you are putting food on the bottom of the cage but can i suggest that a covering of easybed with the food hidden will give them practice in searching for their food. they are natural ground feeders and will love scratching about.

I think Sunday is the day to let them out for the first time [emoji51] we're planning to stay in all day and just open the hatch ..... hopefully they'll eventually go back in for food [emoji1696]your fingers for us xxx
