Hi my name is Gillian me and my husband Rob have 3 parrots a cockato named horace we rescued from a army barracks she is called horace but as you can see she is female she is sulfer crested cockato big problem with her feather plucking she came to use this way and we have tryed everything possible to stop her but nothing has worked she 16 years olds some summers we get her completely feathered ,she was feed on beer and chips in the barracks and this made a mess of her kidneys so the vet told us so we think this is why she feather plucks she has been tested for everything all came back neg drives us insane at times with her shouting and chatting but would not be without her . then we have lilly she is a timney grey parrot which we breed . me and rob breed parrots for about 6 years greys and orange winged amazon and i have to say we were good at it ,but yes we found it easy to breed them and selling them would of been easy if we had been prepare to sell them to any one ,which we were not , people would come to buy and expect to take a parrot away with them this we would not allow we would give them all info about parrot teach them how to handle a parrot and then ask them to go away and read notes we gave them and to read as much as they could about parrots and after they had done this to come back to us, people that really wanted a parrot would willing do this, but most just got annoyed and left, we did sell all parrots we breed, but i must say i was hard work and soul destroying so we decided not to breed any more, anyway back to lilly is a little love but will not stay in her cage locked in if this is done she will remove all her breast wing and tail feathers so she flys around the house freely and must say getting in to everything ,she thinks the ironing board is her private gym, very funny when ironing i iron she warms her feet on the ironed bit she 6 and would sit on my shoulder all day if she could and then there is Alfie male orang wing amazon we breed him to , his mother had 3 chicks and killed 2 of them we took Alfie out of the nest half dead and didnot expect him to live but live he did after weeks of care and i could not sell him for the life of me , hes sat on my shoulder vetting what i am writting lol as for his mum she died 2 days later after removing him and i think she knew she was dying and this why she killed the other 2 and it was only by good grace we saved Alife our house is always full of noise and we would not have it any other way Gill

Hi Gill and :welcome: to the forum

That's a great introduction, looking forward to seeing Horace, Lilly and Alfie, they all sound great characters..

hi welcome

we too rescued a golden mantel rossella who also used to pluck his feathers out drove us mad

the way we got it better was to buy him a small rope type toy with the same colours as his feathers

which we hung low in his cage so whenever he would stress out we would pick at the rope instead of his feather

also we bought some johnsons vit-minerals drops for his food and water it did take some time

but with patients and persaverance he is much better now he will never be feather perfect but he is so much happier now

hope this helps good luck
