my Ruby

Oh my goodness that is very sad, had lovely Ruby been unwell.
I am so very sorry.

hi Diana
She went to the vet 3 weeks ago as her wing was hurt underneath they put her on antibiotics and pain relief to heal took a blood test and said I’d hear the end of that week when I rang they said behind due to staff shortages so her meds stopped
We checked under her wing and it was infected so we think it’s that that she died of I’m going to ring them again today as I feel their service has taken Ruby’s life.
Poor babysat on my lap and died x

So sorry to hear of this tragic loss. having a parrot, Malcolm that has now recovered from a recent broken wing and open wound I know just how worrying this type of injury can be. Do you have any idea on how the injury happened? you may of been waiting for bloods to come back but when I run out of Malcolm's medication I just contacted my avian vet, gave him the latest status of Malcolm's recovery and more medication was issued. I will say with a grey i am surprised they had not put on a collar to stop your grey picking at the wound, many birds will pick at a place that causes discomfort or pain often causing further injury. if you noticed the wing became infected before Ruby passed away it should of been taken to another avian vet if the original vets did not have the staff to cope. was the wing drooping lower than the other side? then the wing should of been strapped in the correct position so Ruby has a chance to rest the wing and let the wing be more comfortable. the cause of poor Ruby's passing may of been owing to the infection but the injury and constant discomfort may of caused shock that can be a killer in birds. One other point is, did the vet clean the wound when they diagnosed Ruby. I would also question why bloods where taken? What was they looking for or suspecting? if a bird had a wing injury then a x-ray may of told them more about the birds wing condition. if your bird had caused the injury by pecking at the spot, this may be owing to discomfort or pain injuring its self and causing the open wound, then a collar to stop more damage should of been put on your bird. I cannot blame you for being annoyed with your vet, (was it an avian vet?) unfortunately nothing I have said will bring Ruby back but hopefully my help if another member finds them selves in this position. I am truly sorry for your loss.

@Tony twist That is very sad was it an avian vet. As Michael has said nothing we can say can bring dear Ruby back and it is just heartbrekaing when they die like that. I have experienced your sadness last year when two of my parrots died during lockdown, my Amazon cut his foot and despite us stemming the bleed went into shock and died as I held him. Once again I am so very sorry and agree to chase up the vet and express your view.

So very sorry you lost your lovely Ruby. Fly free Ruby. :heart1:
