Moving house!

Wow that sounds like a brilliant size for the aviary. Your plan seems excellent to me - no traipsing up and down the garden to visit the birds or anything, and you'll all feel close together. In terms of materials, Rosemead do very good metal metal panels but wood - if it's strong and thick enough - could also be fine as long as it is protected on the inside surfaces (with metal strips, mesh or other pieces of wood that you don't mind getting chewed). I do agree that appearance is important! In terms of height, the more the merrier in my opinion, as the birds love being high up and don't use the lower part of the aviary all that much. Anyway, I'm sure you know all this! I agree that Roz has a splendid example - judging by the photos the it both looks excellent to the human eye and is perfect for the parrots.

We moved in 2020, 160 odd miles away and just before lockdown and I think the key is planning and organisation. If you are calm they will be. If you have the luxury of doing any decorating before that is great as it gets that done and out of the way for a good while. I'll also say it depends on the bird also. My Rubes will still hiss at me that there is something different on her way up to bed, she needs a health and safety cert for everything does that girlie :)

Oh brilliant! I did wonder if the size would be big enough but im so glad it is! We left ourself some room on the patio area so we could get some garden furniture so we can sit in the same place as the birds 🙂

I for one don’t mind the look of the aviary, as long as it’s suitable for the birds. I just don’t want to move into an area with lovely gardens and be the one to plonk a massive metal structure in the garden, i have nightmare neighbours right now with dog kennels and i don’t want to be one of them 😂

I am thinking of taking it to the top same heights as the neighbours single story extension, which is approx 12/13 feet, the birds new playground is going to be better than the house hahaha!
Just battling with myself about rescuing as we have more room, a huge garden with a big summer house, im like we don’t need more birds..... but i dooooo!! Haha.
I will have a search round or drop Roz a message for some inspiration, you are all brilliant. Thank you so much! 😅

How did you find moving the birds so far? I’m moving approx 15 minute drive from my house and panicking.
I am lucky at the moment to be renting, so the plan is get the keys and decorate the new house fully downstairs before moving the birds in, that way they are inside the house and don’t have to be further disturbed to move about and decorate around (plus it reduces all risk of paints on doors/strainers etc) 🙂

Bo is a bit of a nightmare, he is a confident but scared bird at the same time! He will jump if he sees a new piece of furniture or new room in the house but in the same minute want to go explore, so he battles with himself until he builds the confidence to just go haha!
My fifi is so tough, she doesn’t care about anything: she has even been to my parents house and flown round like she owns the place so that little lady doesn’t worry me!

I love that all our birds have such different personalities!

Blimey, 12 feet high will be paradise for your birds. It's going to be such an inspiring project. Greys in flight look splendid with their red tails fanned out, and the more space they have, the more interesting behaviour you'll see. By the way, we'd just heard today that our mortgage application has been approved, so it looks like (if all goes well) I'll be designing something similar to yours.

To be honest when we moved from the Highlands to Lincolnshire the birds were shut in cages in the back of the van for a total of 12 hours. Obviously we stopped, fed and watered them but they arrived a little quite but raring to go. We were surprised how quickly they settled and started their noise, demands for breakfast.

Many years ago we moved 250 miles with 10 parrots, hubby hired a very nice van for the move and fixed them all safely in in their travel cages. They were fine and a few chatted on the journey our priority on arrival was assembling their cages etc and in each one went no problems at all.

That is brilliant news! Congratulations!
Exciting, we might be designing our birds paradise together haha!

Right now we have a large living room/dining room which is just used for us and the birds, bo flys round all the time and he looks beautiful! Although a bit dopey as he is getting used to flying again, he was a clipped baby by the breeder 😠🙁
But im looking forward to him having his own safe open space with fresh air and nature around him!
Our parrotlet will also love it, she has a super large cage for the garden which can be wheeled out d she can fly around her cage but i am hoping she will make use of our aviary too!
