More black feathers on isla

Sorry to post twice 😂

so another thing i noticed after coming back is isla looks to have more black feathers at the end of her wing feathers. i’ve heard that’s a vitamin deficiency.
Before i went she didn’t have them this bad at all. she had a very small amount that weren’t that noticeable. the second picture is the only one i can find that’s pretty clear from before i went.
The others are when i’ve come back today.
Not sure why it’s come on so fast and not sure if she hasn’t eaten all her food or something like that? should i be doing anything to try to help or watch to see if it gets worse

Is she eating well? Do you feed a good variety of fresh foods and a pellet or a supplement? Helps if we know what your are doing hun please?

Have you been for a health check with your AV lately? It is worth mentioning that feathers are like our nails, it takes a while to show up problems. Was Isla even with you when these feathers were forming? My Rubes had some very dark feathers and that was because of her high blood fat levels which are now corrected and so are her feathers.

She’s on harrison’s with a lot of fresh veggies and chop which she really loves. her and hiro are the two biggest veggie eaters i have! not on a supplement and no she hasn’t had a health check recently. i was planning on doing those every 6 months to a year not sure if that’s right or not. when she went for her injury they didn’t bring up her feathers or anything like that but we didn’t go for that of course

How long has Isla been with you hun? She eats the Harrison's? Did you start on the High Potency for six months and then switch to the Adult Lifetime as recommended?

Are new feathers still coming through like this?

she’s been with me for 4 months. i didn’t know i was supposed to use the other one that’s completely my bad. i think it’s likely down to too much fat since i’ve been trying to feed her less sunflower seeds as treats but brought safflower seeds which aren’t that different i’ve just been told. i think i might email a vet just to be safe though

Yes a blood test would tell you. Don't beat yourself hun! I still gave Rubes some seed but not much and that was at night. No stripey/black ones though. Find an alternative treat, I used walnuts which are good in tiny pieces.

I would contact the vet get her a check can be a sign of something lacking. What did she come to you eating? Has she always bin on harrisons? Or was her diet before just seed?

Also i have a green cheek that sometimes gets slightly darkened featers usually before a moult can be some thing simple as rubing herself on the cage/toys to much or over preening. So dont panic.
yes she is molting too i believe so that could also be it

i’ve emailed them since today it’s bank holiday and they didn’t pick up the phone. she was on a full seed diet before since she’s been with me it’s been harrison’s and chop

Could be something to do with diet. Defo get her checked. Keep going with all the good healthy food. Maybe cut out the fatty treats until you no whats going on. Hopefully it is just a moult or rubbing on something.

yes i will definitely stop with the fatty stuff for now! annoyingly it’s bank holiday today and my vets only close for 3 bank holidays and this one is one of those 3 🤦‍♀️ hopefully i’ll hear back tomorrow

Could be a bad theory - but as you have only had her for four months and if it WAS a bad nutrition problem, it could be that it’s taken this long to affect her feathers. Maybe its working itself out. A moult might be he answer. Just trying to add logical and constructive thought to he discussion. My first Ama had black feathers for a while - I changed his die and it took 6 or months from memory to have a noticeable effect

Never used one of those - is there no way you could get them some direct sunlight? I’m lucky I have a stick on aviary
