Meet Mackenzie Aka Wee Green Chicken

Hi all,

Finally taking the time to formally introduce ma Wee Green Chicken. His proper name is Mackenzie, which means 'son of Ken' in Scottish (my dad's name was Ken).

Hatched on 1 October, he's a precoscious wee soul, having already escaped the travel cage and unlocked the top of his main hoose!

A huge thanks to Dave and Shona, who've done a great job raising him for his first 12 weeks   :good:  and to Scarlett for all her purchasing advice.

And so to pictures of the wee man (videos are all too large to upload) ...

Mackenzie looks lovely, its so good that he is really tame and I am sure he will not be wanting for anything. How big is he compared to a grey?

Mackenzie! :rose:

He's fantastic! I love his sweet little face with his baby beak

They grow up so quickly from a chick and are such pretty parrots. I look forward to hearing about his personality and what he gets up to!

Hiya Nigel, I'd say he's the same size as a CAG - he'll get a bit more 'chunky'. I think their wing span is comparable too. Dave made sure he was well socialised and handled. They're less cuddly than CAG's but just as smart. He's already trying to speak...

Kim, he says thanks for the flowers and says hullo to Edwin.

Mel, thanks, hopefully I won't bore everyone with them all lol

Don't be daft Wendi, we love to see the pictures. I'm always clicking and annoying people and pets here lol.

I could have Japanese in my blood hehe

No affence meant to anyone I promise!

Oh he is just beautiful!

I adore Eclectus, such a stunning bird.  You bore away Wendi, that's what we're all here for isn't it :)

There can never be enough pics of Mackenzie as far as I'm concerned

That's great he's already starting to practice his speaking already, they have lovely voices.

Not such a lovely screech though

I've just taken some pics on Edwin on his cargo net, I think Eclectus really like climbing on rope

Nigel with size, it depends on the sub species, the larger like a Vos will be bigger than an AG and the SI will be about the same size.

Edwin is either a Vosmaeri or Red Sided, I think the former due to tail colour and neck and tail length.

They certainly like to eat! I don't think a fussy eating Eclectus exists lol!

When I first got Edwin he used to shout at sunset but I think that was just his aviary behaviour being carried on, as you know he was parent reared, but he stopped doing it after a few weeks. The other thing he does which I also think might be aviary related is if he is out back looking at the garden and it is pouring down he makes a noise. Other than that he's basically silent most of the time but if he sees something that is different, he feels obliged to warn me and the rest of the street. He practices his talking when he is settling down for the night.

Have you given him a spray or water dish, they need regular bathing.

Aye Kim, I've noticed he mumbles when it's nap time, which is so cute. He has a big bowl of water and I've introduced him to the bathroom. He wasn't too keen on the bath water trickling, but he apparently jumped into the sink at Dave's. I was trying to keep him away from the kitchen so I'll try spraying him next. He sometimes sits on my hand or arm, facing me for ages, just looking at me. It's very cute! I think I watched an hour of TV with him like that today.

God, yes the stare! Sometimes he'll get really close and sit on my chest and just stare in silence about 4 inches away from my face. Usually I have to move him as I can't see the telly over his big head

PMSL Kim. So far I'm loving the stare ☺️I do sometimes say to him "u alright" lol and he just blinks
